NL CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES: DODGERS VS BREWERS

October 15, 2026

Dave Roberts

Los Angeles, California, USA

Dodger Stadium

Los Angeles Dodgers

Postgame 4 Press Conference

Brewers - 6, Dodgers - 4

Q. You guys are trying to do something that hasn't been done in sports since the early 2000s with the Lakers. To come up short, what's that feeling? Just how proud are you of the fight these guys have shown these past three years?

DAVE ROBERTS: Extremely proud. It never feels good to lose and not accomplish a goal to win the World Series. It started back in the early part of February. I love this team and what we had to go through. It's one of those things that every night we take the field, people are bringing their best to beat us.

With that, this series, I can't give enough praise to the Brewers organization and the baseball ops with Matt Arnold and his staff and Pat Murphy and his staff and how they got those guys to play, and they played flawless. They really did.

I think for me it never feels good to lose, but when you get beat, you can handle it a little bit better. I had a good conversation with the guys in there and just told them how proud I was. I'm not used to those speeches, those consolation speeches.

But it was a long season. It was still a good season. The thing about sports that we all love is no matter how much you prepare, you want it, there's no guarantees. That's the great thing about sport is the unknown.

With that, we just got beat in four games.

Q. Sometime in these series you got woulda, coulda, shoulda, but it doesn't sound like you've got any of those right now. No regrets in this particular series?

DAVE ROBERTS: I don't. As a manager and anyone participating in the game, you always wonder could we have done, could I have done, could we have done something different that could have changed the game? I think there's just -- I think at the end of the day, we got beat. We got outplayed in all facets. Those guys played flawless. Defensively they pitched better than we did, they hit better than we did, they slugged more than we did. You've got to sometimes just tip your cap.

I personally told our guys that there's no apologies, there's no sorries. We gave it everything we had, and it wasn't good enough. That's part of life.

Q. We asked you this last year about the Dodgers, they're a dynasty, back to back, the money, is it good for baseball? The same question now. You're eliminated. Is there something good for baseball to have a new team in there? I know it's hard, you being the manager of the team that's lost, but if you could take a step back, is there something to that argument that people were saying the Dodgers were outspending everyone -- I hate to use the term "buying." You've heard it before. Is there anything good in all this for baseball? Not for you, not for the Dodgers.

DAVE ROBERTS: All I can say is -- all I will say is the Brewers had the best record in all of baseball. They won 103 games. They earned home-field advantage, and they beat us in four games. For us, it was just pitting two really good ball clubs against one another, and they won out.

I certainly think that I wish it was us going to the World Series and defending our crown, but those guys, they earned it, and it's going to be a heck of a World Series.

Q. But the money factor?

DAVE ROBERTS: I'm not going to get into the money factor.

Q. Glasnow was dealing the first three innings, and then the fourth inning, what happened there?

DAVE ROBERTS: I think it was a couple ground balls that got through. He had good stuff. Nothing is set if it's hit at somebody. There was a walk in there and a ground ball.

Again, that ball had eyes, the Hamilton ball. But it's not one pressure point for me that cost us this game, let alone this series. It's not. We did the best we could, and it wasn't good enough.

Q. Putting aside the age of the roster itself, just playing three long seasons, did you think it caught up to the guys a little bit? Are they a little bit tired going five games in the World Series two years ago, seven games in the World Series last year, does that catch up? Did you notice that at all?

DAVE ROBERTS: I really appreciate the question. I just don't think that in four games that we came up short that age was a factor. What I will say is that those guys, some of the plays that Turang made going to his right, the plays that the outfielders made, that's certainly youth and talent.

It wasn't that they were fatigued. We have off days going into series. I just don't think that our age of our ball club reflected this series. We got beat. There's no because we're too old or whatever. Every facet of the game, if you kind of unpack it, we were bested.

Q. You guys came up short, but you trusted Shohei, and he showed what he's capable of. What did you think of his at-bats today?

DAVE ROBERTS: The homer was great. Obviously he ended up striking out three times, but it was a big hit, big three-run homer, gave us a big lift.

I'll always trust Shohei. I think he's the best player on the planet, and he's not completely healthy. But I just give him a lot of respect for not running from it, still wanting to participate, still wanting to play when he's not 100 percent.

Like I said before, it's all of us. It's not one player that didn't come through. It was all of us. But I'm really impressed with what Shohei did, yes.

Q. How would you describe the emotion Shohei had on that home run?

DAVE ROBERTS: It was something that you don't see very often from Shohei. I think it was a lot of pent-up anger, frustration. It was the best ball he hit in probably two, three months, and it was a big hit.

So I think that for him to look at the dugout, show that emotion, it just shows how much he cares. He's still human. He still cares and wants to help his team win a baseball game. That was a big hit.
