Wyndham Clark

St. Louis, Missouri, USA

Bellerive Country Club

Quick Quotes

Q. When you get rolling with the putter like you do, does the hole look bigger? Does confidence grow?

WYNDHAM CLARK: It doesn't necessarily look bigger, it's more you start seeing the lines and you're so much more committed. You're like, okay, that's exactly it. And then you just stroke it and the ball goes in. Versus maybe days that you aren't putting as good kind of second guessing lines and you trust one and it misses and then the next one -- so it's more you just really trust your read and the ball starts going in.

Q. Do you and Dave say anything to each other after 1, standing on 2 tee, anything kind of reset you?

WYNDHAM CLARK: Other than a couple cuss words. We kind of just said, Wow, that sucked. And then Dave said, Hey, it's fun to have a challenge, let's embrace it, and let's go move on to the next hole. That's done.

Unfortunately, hit a bad shot on 2, but then really made a nice recovery and then got into a nice groove after that.

Q. Do you feel like a better player than when you won your first U.S. Open and won Quail Hollow?

WYNDHAM CLARK: I think definitely. I have way more control with my iron play. I'm starting to get a lot better off the tee. I think mentally I'm way better. I actually think my putting's significantly better than even in 2023. So, yeah, I think overall my game, each year I feel like I get better. Even though some years you don't play as good, I just feel like the more time you spend out on TOUR you get better, sharper mentally, sharper with your distances, knowing your game better, so, yeah, definitely better.

Q. You say it's hard to sleep on the lead. You have so much experience, shouldn't you sleep like a baby tonight?

WYNDHAM CLARK: Well, I mean, I always sleep good. But it's more the angst when you wake up. That's usually when I feel it. You wake up and you have that little pit in your stomach, you're excited to go play, and you wish you were teeing off right as you wake up so you didn't have to think about it. But it's also fun. That's kind of what we love as athletes and we chase after the moment, so I'm looking forward to it.

Q. What was the club at 8? The approach.

WYNDHAM CLARK: It was a sliced 5-wood. We were in between a 4-iron and a 5-wood and I kind of hit a heel cut 5-wood.

Q. Was that the shot of the day?

WYNDHAM CLARK: Yeah, yeah. Yeah, I mean, that was a great shot. I would say the up-and-down on both bunkers were huge, just for momentum. First on 6, kind of getting it back to where I was just 1-over, and then it would have been kind of a bummer to bogey 6. I made that putt and followed it up with some good golf. So those to me, the momentum putts are the biggest thing. That was just an added bonus.

Q. Is there a secret to that morning prep tomorrow?

WYNDHAM CLARK: Fortunately, I got a great girlfriend I can hang out with, and she distracts me and keeps me from worrying about what's going on and I stay in the present, so she helps a lot.
