FEDEX ST. JUDE CHAMPIONSHIP

August 14, 2026

Scottie Scheffler

Memphis, Tennessee, USA

TPC Southwind

Quick Quotes

Q. Absolute vintage Scottie Scheffler. 3 1/2 shots better than the field with the irons, rolling the rock. Did it feel as easy as it looked?

SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: I wouldn't say golf's ever easy. I did some good things out there. I hit some iron shots in there close and was able to hole a few putts as well.

Q. You came out on a mission, five in a row. Did you just feel it on the range? Could you feel this coming? Some days it's just a hole opening up. Did you feel like, hey, let's get off to a good start today? Did you feel like that?

SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: I think that's always the plan to get off to a good start. I got a good read on the 1st, knocked that one in. My swing has felt really good the past couple weeks, especially playing at home. It was nice to get out there and get things rolling early in the round and was able to keep the momentum going and shoot myself a nice round today.

Q. You responded so well. A couple of mistakes today, but immediately left them in the rearview mirror. How good was it or how important was it to leave those quickly behind you?

SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: Yeah, any time you can bounce back. I think I maybe bogeyed 8 and 12, and I made a quick birdie after No. 8 on the 10th and another quick birdie after the 12th on the 13th. Nice to bounce back and keep that momentum going.

Q. I like Ted's mustache. He's one of the few people that look younger with a mustache. My wife hates this, by the way. Are we maybe moving a little over on the opinion today on the mustache?

SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: He always does something like this. He always tries to make people laugh and jokes and stuff. He's been using so much dye in his mustache just so we could see it. It's just his personality. He likes doing funny stuff like that.

I'm still not a fan (laughter).

Q. You said yesterday the key to the round was patience. You felt like you needed to stay patient throughout the course of the round. When you bounce back and do what you did today, does that feel like a little bit of validation for that patience?

SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: It's like you always want to try to get off to a good start. I was able to do that today. Really just a dream start. Probably one of the best starts I've had on TOUR, to be honest with you. I couldn't tell you a time where I've been lower early in the round.

Yeah, just a good start and was able to continue to strike the ball and execute. Yesterday was a day in which I felt like I played better than my score, but also early in the round I was out of the fairway a lot. So it could have been a day in which my score could have definitely been worse, and it definitely could have been a lot better. But today was a day in which I felt I got a lot out of the round.

Q. The first five holes, what was the key part of your game? It seems like the ball striking, you just talked about.

SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: Yeah, when you're making birdies out here, you're hitting good shots and holing putts. I think that's what we're trying to do all the time. I was able to do that pretty quick to start the round today.

Q. How does today rank in terms of level of satisfaction with your putting performance?

SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: Pretty good. Yeah, like I said, I hit some nice shots. I gave myself a lot of looks. I feel I was pretty solid on the greens, and I was able to hole a couple of those -- I feel like yesterday I had a couple of putts that were right around the edge. Today I was able to hole a good amount of putts.

Q. What changes from a day like yesterday to a day like today where you make 13 one-putts?

SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: I think it's just golf. That's really all it is. That's why I talked about being patient yesterday because I felt like I played a little better than my score. It was nice to get out there early and knock in some putts and give myself some really good looks as well.

Q. When you're getting off to such a hot start with five straight birdies, at what point do you know it's going to be a special round?

SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: Probably not till the round's over. I think just always fighting and battling for each shot. I did a good job today of keeping myself in the round for the most part.

Q. I talked to you earlier in the week about how your performances here have steadily risen as the years have gone on. Do you feel like that win is on the horizon, and what's going to be the key for you to do that this weekend?

SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: Hopefully saw. I feel like I alluded to that when you asked the question. Yeah, if I continue to improve, hopefully I'll be in a good spot at the end of the week.

The tournament is halfway over. I had two good rounds to start and hopefully continue that over the weekend.
