Quick Quotes

Q. Bogey-free 63. How would you assess your third round?

WYNDHAM CLARK: Yeah, I kind of did my goal was to get to 12. Yeah, it was a solid day. It wasn't my sharpest from the fairways with my iron game, but I drove it pretty good and made the putts I needed to make. Then I kind of got into a rhythm the last six, seven holes.

Q. What's something you're looking to do to fine tuning your short game?

WYNDHAM CLARK: Well, swing-wise, I'm going to go work on it right now, 20 minutes, do some technique, try to get a good feeling for it. Then I'm going to get away, get some rest, maybe did a little fishing.

Q. One of the many birdies today was at The Rink. Tell me the story how you came about the Jack Hughes jersey?

WYNDHAM CLARK: So I -- gosh, it was maybe on Thursday, Thursday and we get up to the Rink and I'm like, Dang it, why didn't we bring a USA hockey jersey. And I actually looked online to try to get one over nighted, it was just too difficult so it didn't happen. Yesterday on one of the holes I see a guy wearing a Jack Hughes USA jersey. So I finished, I walk straight up to him and say, Is there any way I could buy your jersey and wear it tomorrow? And he goes, Hell yeah. So he met me after the round, paid for it, got his address, I'm going to ship it back to him. And then, yeah, then I wore it on the Rink hole, which obviously I got a ton of boos. I was doing it to more celebrate USA's win, it had nothing against Canada, but I just thought in hockey country it would be kind of fun. I was very fortunate enough to make a birdie and at least do it in style.

Q. You say you were expecting a little bit of boos, but what was the atmosphere and the reaction?

WYNDHAM CLARK: No, I was expecting boos, for sure. It was quite fun. I mean, they were all booing, and then I took it off, stuck it close, put it back on. They were booing me all the way up even right before I putted. I was actually really nervous on that putt because if I miss that then it looks really bad. So I'm glad I birdied it. I think some guys came up and said, You got stones, you know, that was pretty impressive. But, you know, yeah, it was all fun and games.

Q. You've obviously been spectacular on the PGA TOUR, you're in a great spot again on Sunday. Did something happen, change, did you have a conversation with someone a couple weeks ago or what has prompted this incredible run the last couple weeks?

WYNDHAM CLARK: I've said it a couple times, I've actually played pretty solid golf most of the year, I just haven't done it for consecutive rounds. And then the missing part has kind of been the putting. Since I switched to this Ping putter, it's been amazing. Yeah, so now I feel like all the hard work I've put into my swing is paying off because when I hit the greens or hit it close I'm actually making the putts, where maybe earlier in the year I wasn't.

Q. You said you wanted to get to 12, you ended up at 11, but are you pleased where you're at, knowing what kind of weather or wind is supposed to come in this afternoon, how are you feeling about what the guys will face later?

WYNDHAM CLARK: Yeah, I mean, I'm, I was six back starting the day. I was hoping to try to cut that in half. I'm sure guys will get to 13, 14, hopefully no one gets more than that. But, yeah, I mean really just wanted a chance on Sunday. I know the weather's going to be tough, so it's going to be a grind. And so, yeah, you never know. So I really just wanted to put myself in position and move up the leaderboard.

Q. Have you gone fishing this week?

WYNDHAM CLARK: Yeah, I'm actually staying at this really cool trout club that's about 10 minutes away. Yesterday we went on the river, I taught Dave how to fly fish, we caught some fish. Yeah, so it's really cool. So we can go back and there's ponds and a river, it's been an amazing stay, they have really treated us well.
