THE MODERATOR: Let's welcome to the media center Scott Vincent with HyFlyers GC. Scott, currently 5-under par, sitting T3 through two rounds. Tell us how the tournament has been so far, how you're feeling out there.
SCOTT VINCENT: Thank you. Yeah, it's been great. I love playing on this side of the world. I spent a lot of my professional career out here. In a way, kind of comfortable, and feels a bit like home.
But yeah, it's been a great start. Today was awesome and challenging at the same time. Just to play with Bryson and Charles was such a good experience. So I'm really thankful for that. Yeah, two more days, so good place to be.
Q. When you're grouped up with a player like Bryson and you've got extra galleries that are following you around, does that change or impact the experience, your approach, your mindset? What's that like compared to maybe another round where you don't have quite that same attention?
SCOTT VINCENT: Yeah, I think it's really cool because there's a lot of energy. The crowd is cheering for you, and there's just a buzz about playing in front of people like that.
We've done it a few times before, but it's been a while. It's just a great experience. I do like it. It definitely forces you to focus in a little bit more because you're trying not to get caught up in what's going on outside of the ropes. Yeah, it's a great experience.
Q. Since being called up by the HyFlyers, you've obviously played really well. You've been a member of a LIV Golf team in previous seasons. Can you share what the experience is like competing on a team compared to a wild card, especially on a week like this, or this season what has that experience been like from one to now being part of a team?
SCOTT VINCENT: Yeah, I think just playing on LIV is incredible as it is, wild card, on a team. All of it is just incredible. But even more so playing on a team where the players want you to be there. They're excited for you to be there. You just kind of fit in with them. That just makes it even better.
I've loved it. I'm super grateful to be on the HyFlyers, and very thankful to be playing the way I am because that obviously looks good and helps them. I'm just trying to be a good teammate and fit in and do my part and hopefully play some good golf.
Q. Scott, most of the top of the leaderboard are shot makers. Does that surprise you? Did you expect that coming out on to this course? Is this really a shot maker's course? Would you call it that?
SCOTT VINCENT: Yeah, I think the course has surprised a lot of us. I think when I walked it on Sunday and then you play it on Monday, I don't think most of us expected it to play this hard, or at least I didn't.
There's just -- you have to be so precise with so many things. Like coming out of the rough is almost impossible just to hold the green, and then you've got the wind all over the place. It's not consistent through the trees, when you get into the fairway. There's a lot of things about this course that look very simple but it actually plays so much harder than that.
Shot maker, yes, but just good execution, good clear thinking, good guesses on what it's doing, and yeah, look at the scores. I think 8-under is leading right now. I don't know where that sits as far as 36-hole leads, but it seems kind of low.
The course is just playing tough, and that's good, and we've got preferred lies, as well, so we've got a lot of things that are making it play easy, but it's putting up such a good fight.
Q. You talked about this a little bit yesterday, but it's almost like you flipped a switch when you joined the HyFlyers, and certainly the results show that. Is there something tangible you can point to, anything in particular with that change?
SCOTT VINCENT: I think it's Rees and Glenn. I think those two guys have just made the biggest difference here.
Q. I did want to ask you about the dynamic of the team itself. Obviously Phil is not around; you're taking his spot. What's it been like to have a team that doesn't have that kind of large presence as a captain?
SCOTT VINCENT: I think not having Phil here is a big loss, not just for the team but for everyone. I think his presence is so important. I admire and look up to him so much. I've gotten to play with him one or two times and by far two of my favorite rounds as a professional.
I really hope he gets back out here soon. It'll just be good for everyone. Of course I want to keep playing for the team, but I want him to be here more than that.
But what's been really cool is you just see the players in the team right now, like the older players, Cameron and Steeley, step up and play that leadership role in the team. They're doing such a good job of that.
It's just cool to see how people kind of step into those positions, as well. Long way of saying, it would be great to have Phil back.
Q. What do you think about La Sasso?
SCOTT VINCENT: One of the funniest guys out here, that's for sure. It's great. He was my partner this week against Cameron and Steeley and we got them this time, so that was fun. But he's such a great kid and so talented, as well. He flushed it on Monday and Tuesday when we played. It didn't surprise me to see him shoot 2-under yesterday.
Yeah, I think you can see him getting a little more comfortable, which I think is so important for a young kid coming through. So it won't surprise me to see him do well going forward.
