Quick Quotes

Q. What do you think got your round going today?

WYNDHAM CLARK: Probably the par save on 3. Kind of didn't really play 1 and 2 -- actually, I played 2 fine, just didn't make the putt. 3, thought I hit a great shot, went in the bunker. That was kind of a huge momentum, eight, nine-footer.

Then I got into a rhythm and started burning some holes. Obviously that eagle on 9 was really nice.

Q. We didn't get a chance to ask you about the design changes here. What's your overall impression?

WYNDHAM CLARK: I initially thought when we were playing the practice round it was going to make the course tougher. Clearly it hasn't. In defense of the new design, it's been really wet and no wind. Regardless of what you do, we're so good now, we're going to make a lot of birdies.

Yeah, I think it's good because before the greens were pretty flat and didn't have much to them, and now there's a lot of slope and undulation, and you have to be pinpoint accuracy.

All in all, I like it. You have to think a lot more and be precise, which I think is great to have on the PGA TOUR of course.

Q. Did you have a bloody nose?

WYNDHAM CLARK: I don't really know. I had like a cut on my nose, and I went like this. Next thing you know I was bleeding. It wasn't quite a bloody nose, but it lasted a couple holes.

Q. On a course like this where scoring is available as opposed to a course that's a little more resistant to scoring, what interests you more about being near the lead in the final round? Which kind of course?

WYNDHAM CLARK: I like when par means a lot, typically on the tougher golf courses. It's also fun to be going out there and who's going to make the most birdies, who's going to hit the best shots and make the most putts. That is also fun.

I wouldn't say -- I mean, both are great. It's fun being in contention. Whether you have to shoot 8-under to win or 1-under to win, it's fun because you still feel the same heat. Tomorrow it's probably going to be exactly that way where you have to make a ton of birdies.

To answer your question, I don't really have a preference, but it's just fun being in contention.

Q. One more corollary question to that is if you don't get off to like a torrid start tomorrow, let's say even-par through 4 or 5, how do you deal with that knowing that players all around you are probably putting up some numbers?

WYNDHAM CLARK: Just know that there's time -- if you didn't birdie the first five, you can birdie the next 13. That's what your mindset has to be. We've seen guys make birdies left and right. If you don't start well, then just believe it's going to happen.

I'm hoping I start really well and play good through the middle of the round and end of the round.

Q. Me too.

WYNDHAM CLARK: Thank you.
