Press Conference
THE MODERATOR: We'd like to welcome, we're joined here with Sungjae Im, Si Woo Kim, and K.H. Lee at the CJ CUP Byron Nelson. Welcome. Thank you all for joining us today.
We're going to start off with opening comments, what it's like to be back here at the course. I don't know if you've seen the new course renovations. For two of you, I know being Dallas natives, it's nice to be here at a quote, unquote, home course.
K.H. is a two-time champion here. Just start off with some comments being back at a course that you've been a champion here.
K.H. LEE: Always feeling good here. I heard a lot of course renovations this week.
(Pause for rain.)
THE MODERATOR: All right. Take two. We're coming back to you, K.H. Just get some comments about being a two-time champion here, a course and tournament you're very familiar with.
K.H. LEE: It feels like home every time I come here although I'm from Orlando. Being a two-time winner here feels like home.
I wasn't able to be here last year, and I've heard there's a lot of renovation. Obviously another renovation, the green complexes. I only got to play nine holes, but a little bit different, a lot of undulation.
So seems like I'm going to have to focus on my iron play a little better this year, but excited to be here.
Q. Si Woo, if we could get some comments. You're a Dallas resident here, and you have a fun pairing playing with Scottie and Brooks the first few days.
SI WOO KIM: Excited to be playing here. Then staying home in my bed is really good. Then excited to play with Scottie and Brooks.
I played like three weeks ago one time here, and I played the new course. It's really changed with all the new greens. Excited to play. I have to kind of worry about where I have to miss. Yeah, just excited to play at home.
Q. Sungjae, I know this is an event you have circled on your calendar. What's the excitement entering the week?
SUNGJAE IM: This is my third CJ CUP, and being that it's my title sponsor, obviously there's an added pressure to do well. This course being low scoring, yielding low scores, obviously I need to go low.
So I need to play my best, but excited to be here as the title sponsor CJ CUP tournament. Very excited to be here.
Q. For Sungjae and Si Woo, coming off the PGA Championship, how are you feeling after a grueling week and kind of changing gears to a different course and different style? Si Woo, we'll start off with you. How do you feel entering the week from PGA Championship?
SI WOO KIM: It was a really tough week last week, especially really hard to play off the tee, and then the rough and greens, everything was really tough.
I tried my best, but it didn't go well. Yeah, it was a great experience. Then happy to be back here, pretty much home course. And playing in Dallas is a huge, exciting part.
SUNGJAE IM: Unfortunately, last week the course being major championship and being very difficult, I unfortunately missed the cut by one shot. We found the golf course severely difficult, and the rough, everything about the greens, the pin positions were really difficult.
So it was unfortunate that I didn't get to play the weekend, but looking forward to playing well here this week.
Q. I know we've already had some weather this morning, but have any of you guys gotten to play the course since last year with the renovations? Any of you guys get to play nine this morning or yesterday? If you could just tell us about some of the changes from prior years when you played this, how some of the holes are different with the renovations.
K.H. LEE: Today with the course being a little bit overcast and wet, it didn't feel severely different, but looking forward to playing tomorrow in the Pro-Am to see the back nine to see all the changes.
A lot of the obvious ones are the green complexes look a little bit different, but I didn't get to see the back nine. So tomorrow we'll be able to play the back nine and try to get to see more of the golf course.
