Quick Quotes
Q. Something Rory said last night he doesn't feel like he's an intimidating player, doesn't carry himself that way. He's probably not Tiger-like in that way. Do you think he's intimidating in how he is?
ADAM SCOTT: Yeah, I think he underestimates himself a little bit there. You know, there aren't many players that would stand on a tee box and be able to go toe-to-toe with him. You know, when he gets up there and pounds one 340 down the first, there's only really a handful of guys.
Then they start dwindling out when you start going to irons and putting the whole game together as well. He's the complete package really.
Q. So when you see his name up there, it's just as impressive as anyone?
ADAM SCOTT: Well, I think you know you you've got your hands full. His record is pretty spectacular. I think the big thing was after a while with Tiger, you know, his closing percentage was just so big. He just didn't let anyone get past him when he had the lead, and that's a little different today.
But, you know, if you just stand there and watch guys hit the golf ball, then Rory has got it on a lot of people.
Q. And his demeanor kind of contributes to that too, probably, right, just he's pretty self-effacing?
ADAM SCOTT: Yeah, I don't think he's -- you know, he's incredibly exciting to watch. Maybe not as much as a showman as Tiger was in his day, but both very exciting golfers to watch play.
Q. If you had your (indiscernible) and you could say this is the conditions I want, are the conditions this year the way you like the Masters every year?
ADAM SCOTT: Yeah, I think the firmer and faster they can get it, the better. I mean, there's no wind. I would say I think we're -- I did play early, so this may be irrelevant when guys come in later in the day, but the greens are still very, very friendly.
I don't think it's the scariest I've ever seen it here, but I love seeing the fairways play firmer. You know, the club would be able to answer better than me, but I guess that sand capping they did over the last few years has really paid off because the ball is running a bit more.
I think, you know, on some of these holes that turn, having the ball run and you're having to be more precise with your line off the tee is an important defense of the golf course.
Q. 25 Masters, I believe.
ADAM SCOTT: Yeah. How many for you, Jim?
Q. 27.
ADAM SCOTT: There you go.
Q. I still didn't get a green jacket. What did you learn and what do you still want to learn about this place?
ADAM SCOTT: I mean, obviously I've learned how to manage the golf course, but in saying that, there's still -- you still have to really execute to put it all together. You know, and I feel like I've played okay this week, but certainly the first two days I didn't execute good enough to think I could shoot 5-under each round.
I might have been able to squeak out a couple better and look respectable, a bit more respectable on the board. When you are really on, it gives you a lot, I think, this course. You know, a couple of pins and the momentum, you hit a couple of good shots to those pins that it feeds close to, and then you hole a 30-footer in between.
And then there's two more pins where it feeds close, and then all of a sudden you're on a run of 5 or 6-under on a few holes. It goes a long way around here.
Q. Did you see Phil's comments about 13 and 15 not being as exciting because guys weren't able to go for as much the first couple of days?
ADAM SCOTT: I didn't.
Q. What are your thoughts about 13 and 15 as they play now? Is it less exciting?
ADAM SCOTT: Well, this year 13 is trickier, for sure, to go for because.
Q. Why?
ADAM SCOTT: Because you're just standing back further really on a big side slope, and you're weighing up. Like a lot of holes here, it's a huge risk. Big reward; huge risk. There are a lot of them on a lot of holes here.
15 has been in the go zone, but the green is firm. So it's just stress, but you don't want to lay up, because then you've got to wedge in there with a hard green. So it's just a hard hole, but it's certainly in the go zone.
But the greens are firm this year, and that's because of the weather really.
Q. The third shot isn't necessarily any less exciting if you've laid up, because for a fan, you still --
ADAM SCOTT: I'm sure the fans love it. The players hate it, but I'm sure the fans love it. I think there were three 9s on Thursday on that hole. I don't know any other par-5 like it, to be perfectly honest. Yeah, I think it's great.
Q. I'd suggest people have no idea how dicey the third shot is, because you had that shot today and hit it long on 15. (Indiscernible).
ADAM SCOTT: No, it's like you're laying it up from over the green to the fringe of the green. You know, you are almost -- you're kind of conceding birdie and taking par from there.
You know, it's worth a go for the green, for sure, but then you're really, like, putting your par head-on if you are over the back there too far.
Q. Scottie put it all the way through yesterday.
ADAM SCOTT: Yeah? I mean, and thank goodness it's not windy, but it's crazy how this little bit of air moves around, and you can feel it hitting your face one second and then when you're over the ball, it just carries it downwind. There's a 10-yard difference in your pitch number, and that is way too much difference around here. It ends up in a bad spot with stuff like that.
You know, you've got to be very sure what you're doing.
