MASTERS TOURNAMENT

April 10, 2026

Tommy Fleetwood

Augusta, Georgia, USA

Quick Quotes

Q. Let's talk about the two eagles, please.

TOMMY FLEETWOOD: Well, actually, eight was the first eagle I've ever made. I had a hole-in-one on 16, but apart from that, I've never made an eagle on a par-5 or a par-4, so that was my first.

That was a good one, because I just felt like I didn't play great at the start of the round, and then I felt like I played five, six, seven really well, and then eight was a perfect opportunity to hit a good drive. Just felt like it was a chance to get something going. Eagle was a bonus. Like a birdie would have got me under par.

Started great, and then 15, yeah, 15, good drive. Finno kind of did the rest there. I would have probably not got the club right with the second one, and then he read the putt higher than I would have hit it as well. So it was mostly Finn on 15.

Q. What was the right club?

TOMMY FLEETWOOD: You know what, the tricky thing was, as calm as it was today, I felt like the last few holes, the wind -- I find it very difficult to get a bead on where the wind was the last few holes. I felt like it swirled a little bit. You would rather it like that than obviously brutally tough conditions, but I just found it hard to gauge where the wind was.

I hit an 8-iron that floated up on four and went nowhere, and then you stand on 15, and I felt like it was downwind, and it wasn't really. It was off the right, because my 9-wood, I'd have been a clip short. Then the water, but Finno sort of had it right. So did a good job there.

Q. Do you feel the firm and fast conditions are going to bring more people into the hunt? In other words, you can be farther back from the leaders and still have a chance?

TOMMY FLEETWOOD: Well, I mean, I just looked at the leaderboard there. You know, Rory looks like he has a good chance to have a pretty commanding lead, in which case it's up to him, like, what happens.

Yeah, I think when the conditions are -- when the conditions get tougher later in the day because it dries out and gets firmer and faster, a good round in the morning can make the world of difference. So it can really help you.

Yeah, of course, if the conditions are going to be like that, then yeah, it definitely gives more people a chance.

Q. How easy is it to kind of forget -- I think you had a bogey on the last one there. How easy to put that to the side?

TOMMY FLEETWOOD: I started with a bogey and finished with bogey. I had a good tee shot on the last. I just didn't do a good job of -- I had a sort of bearish line on the fairway. I just put a bad swing on it. Obviously just searched for the strike a little bit.

It's easy to forget when you've had a good round. You know, I did so much good stuff. You know, I was obviously disappointed with a shot that I hit into 18. That wasn't a particularly, like, challenging shot. Like I say, I just searched for the strike a little bit, a bad swing, out of position, gave myself a putt in, hit a good putt. I kind of look at the hole and say I had a good drive and a good putt and move on.

I mean, there's going to be bogeys out there, and it's your job to accept them and move on. I did so much good stuff. There's no point dwelling on something that was not great.

Q. How do you go into the weekend then from this position?

TOMMY FLEETWOOD: Well, I mean, very, very happy. Today was a great round, and I think -- that was late on a Friday. Like, the eagle on 15, you know, in that corner having a moment like that and playing down the stretch there where you're in contention on Friday, it's exactly where you want to be.

You know, when you set out yesterday morning, all you can do is give yourself a chance the further the tournament goes on. Sit back and sort of enjoy today, look at the positives of today, and I'm looking forward to teeing off tomorrow. It's great going into Masters weekend in the position that a few of us are in.

Yeah, just be very excited about it and continue to -- it's such a test of your all-around game, patience, discipline, and attitude. You know, it's a test of everything, which is what a major should be and what the Masters should be. Looking forward to sort of going about all those challenges.

Q. Took a few years for you to finally get in the winner's circle on the PGA TOUR. Is now the next step in your career trying to win a major? Is that where you feel the most pressure?

TOMMY FLEETWOOD: I guess it probably is the next step. Of course, I know it took me a long time to win in America. I always felt I've had a chance at majors as well in the past. I did say I sort of take things sort of in the present moment, and I think last year for as good as the year was, my majors were disappointing to me. I felt like I didn't contend in any majors, and I didn't particularly play great. So that was something that I wanted to look at this year.

I've had a good start. I've had two good days, but there's a long way to go. There's six more in this tournament, and then there's three more majors.

I actually saw Rory said a good thing where he said yesterday was round one of 16, like, major season. I thought that's really good, and obviously he's been good in majors as well, so kind of copy what those guys do.

So, yeah, I want to compete in these majors, get myself into contention, and of course, you know, I want to win one. I think, you know, there's probably -- well, there is. There's better players than me that haven't won a major in their career over the years, but I would just love to try to do everything I can to put myself in position, and hopefully I win.

I would always say about winning in America, it's about winning multiple, but to do that, you have to win one first, so I'll try and do that.

Q. You wear the Masters logo at all this weekend?

TOMMY FLEETWOOD: Yeah, I will be. Yeah, for sure. I gave it a day off tomorrow, but it will be back. I had a Masters sweater on, but it was too hot.
