AL WILD CARD SERIES: RED SOX VS YANKEES

October 1, 2025

Cam Schlittler

New York, New York, USA

Yankee Stadium

New York Yankees

Pregame Press Conference

Q. Hey, Cam, just wondering what does this assignment mean to you to be asked to pitch in Game 3?

CAM SCHLITTLER: I mean, it is important. For him to put faith in me and we get to Game 3, that means a lot. So just making sure I am taking it as another game and going to do my job.

Q. How did Boone break the news to you when he asked you to do it?

CAM SCHLITTLER: I think he told me -- I think it came out more publicly before that. I think that was kind of the expectation going into the last two days.

Q. Hey, Cam. You grew up in Massachusetts obviously. You pitched against the Red Sox at Northeastern in Fort Myers a couple years ago. Could you have imaged then that you would be in this position now?

CAM SCHLITTLER: No, obviously. Freshman in college playing against them in Fort Myers. Great experience. Obviously I am a lot different player than I was then. So didn't really expect to be in this situation back then, but now I am definitely happy I am.

Q. Cam, understanding that Boston's lineup will probably look different tomorrow night than it has for Max and Carlos, is there still a benefit that you can derive from having watched Max last night and watching Carlos tonight that you think could help you going into your game?

CAM SCHLITTLER: Yeah, 100%. Two lefties before me throwing. It is more the mentality and mental side of the game as well. Being able to listen in to what they are doing and the adjustments they are making again will make things a little easier for me.

Again, it is all learning points. For me to experience playoff baseball for two days before I get there is definitely a good experience.

Q. Your path through baseball, how would you say it shaped you, whether it was playing in the Northeast, I don't know if you were able to play year-round, but how it shaped the player you are, mentally tougher or physically?

CAM SCHLITTLER: Obviously it is tough. Being from New England, it is different from being down south. You don't get the full year of baseball. The way my college coach would describe it more of a blue-collar, hard-nosed team. That's how I take myself as a player. Again, the steps I have taken to get here definitely going to define how I go out there and pitch tomorrow.

Q. How many people would you expect, your family and friends, to be at the game tomorrow?

CAM SCHLITTLER: Only a couple. More immediate family, at least from the side of who I am giving tickets to. Whether extra people come or not, all I know is my immediate family is going to be here.

Q. Hey, Cam, have you fully converted your family to Yankees fans?

CAM SCHLITTLER: Yeah, I would say so. I would say growing up in Boston, I take pride in being from Boston. When it came to my career and where I want to be, this is where I want to be. They are full Yankee guys now. They don't wear it around as much in Boston just because. When they are here, they are very prideful about it.

Q. Cam, how much of an influence was your dad on you? I mean, I know your dad was a pretty good college player.

CAM SCHLITTLER: Yeah.

Q. High school quarterback. How much of an influence was he on you, and being as competitive as you are?

CAM SCHLITTLER: Obviously, you know, growing up, he shaped me into the person I am. So him being a police chief, he's kind of a little tougher on me. He has always been competitive in terms of sports.

So, again, being able to learn from him and make sure I take everything I can throughout the years with him has definitely made my life a little easier. I would say he is hard on me, and he tells me, You are going to appreciate that down the road, which I definitely do. He has had a big influence on me and what I have done with my career.
