ALFRED DUNHILL LINKS CHAMPIONSHIP

October 1, 2025

Tyrrell Hatton

St. Andrews, Fife, Scotland

Press Conference

THE MODERATOR: Pleased to be joined by three -time Alfred Dunhill Links Champion, Tyrrell Hatton. What is it about this event that seems to bring out the best in you?

TYRRELL HATTON: Maybe the slightly relaxed nature of this week. As we all know, I can lose my head, and maybe that's played a part in why I've played well here.

Q. A contrast coming from last week to this week?

TYRRELL HATTON: The atmosphere will be world's apart. Last week was pretty intense. This week will feel somewhat quieter but in some ways, also looking forward to that.

Q. Luke Donald reminded me in that Tweet -- about two Ryder Cups, the intensity of the whole thing?

TYRRELL HATTON: Yeah, also fortunate to play with and have amazing partners. Yeah, foursomes with Rahmbo is pretty special. As we saw last week, didn't matter where I hit the ball. He would play a remarkable shot. And then if I needed to, I generally holed the putt which a nice combination.

Q. You played the Team Cup in Abu Dhabi it, and Luke had used the VR head sets, how bad was it, in your opinion?

TYRRELL HATTON: When you say how bad?

Q. What people said to you.

TYRRELL HATTON: To be honest, I think some guys on the team had a lot worse than others. For me personally, yeah, there was a lot of insults maybe around height or hair line or weight, which -- some of which I pretty much said to myself anyway, so it wasn't like anything new.

How I went about last week, I don't feel like I did anything to wind up the crowd to be honest. Like if I celebrated, I celebrated generally towards my teammates or with my caddie. Yeah, that's just how I dealt with everything. And certainly Friday, Saturday, I was really happy with how I managed my emotions on the golf course. I didn't really let anything affect me; even if I hit bad shots, I didn't overly react. I was pretty calm, and as we know that can be difficult for me sometimes.

Sunday I struggled a bit more with that. Singles is a different beast. Certainly, the first two days, you're with your teammates, and then Sundays can feel a bit more lonely or in some regards back to normal because that's how it is as an individual every other tournament that you play. And yeah, as the round went on, the pressure was building. I don't think I overreacted but I definitely found it harder to stay as calm as I had done the previous three days.

Q. How would you like European fans to behave toward American players? Do you want them to make it as hostile as it was for you, or do you want a different line to be drawn?

TYRRELL HATTON: If it was my choice, and obviously what I say isn't really going to affect how people behave, but I don't really think that the insults is the way forward. I would much prefer it to be a respectful atmosphere; you let the guys play and the best team wins, rather than trying to affect the outcome by trying to putt off players or things like that.

But I don't think it will be as hostile as maybe as it was last week. I'd like to think that it will be very respectful.

Q. Can you just talk a little bit about on Sunday when the cut was retained, was that a confusion of emotions for you, the celebrations and trying to stay in it to get that half-point? What was going on for you?

TYRRELL HATTON: To be honest, I wouldn't say -- for me personally it was a half-hour window where it was -- the whole back nine, or most of the day was so intense. Certainly the last six, seven holes, the most nervous I've ever been on a golf course. You could just see the leaderboard it, and it's really hard to not look at the leaderboard. You're trying to focus on your match but you're also interested to see how the lads are getting on in front of you.

Of course, going outnumber 10, there was 11 matches on Sunday, unfortunately with Viktor not being able to play, so being one of the last two matches on the golf course with the lead that we had going into Sunday, hoping that the guys early would get it done. Our goal was to go and win that session.

Yeah, it started off pretty well but then the U.S. Team had all of a sudden all the momentum and put up an incredible fight. But that certainly made it more stressful for me, say, the last six, seven holes. You're focused on trying to win your point, but it's so hard to not get drawn into what else is happening on the golf course. It out of your control. With the match and everything, your mind is spinning a bit but that being said, I was happy with how I played under that pressure. Although I didn't hole the putts, the last 11 holes of my match, I had eight opportunity to win the hole. I was putting to win the hole. Although it was only a half-point in the end, that was enough for us to win the Ryder Cup, which was pretty special.

Q. When you qualified your celebration was particular. Did you moderate things this time?

TYRRELL HATTON: I think Indy scared me to be honest. So I was very well behaved, which is very boring for you guys to hear. Yeah, also, going into this week, I didn't want to travel feeling horrendous. Last week takes a lot out of you mentally, physically, and yeah, I didn't want to feel that bad. So I was very well behaved.

Q. You talked about your brilliant partners. You've got another brilliant partner this week. Last week he was so like you in mannerisms and everything else but he was out there with you last week. What were his feelings about the crowd? Was he as laid back as you were?

TYRRELL HATTON: To be honest, I didn't really speak to, well, the only person I didn't actually see on Sunday night was my dad. I saw him just off 18th green but I didn't see him at the hotel. I think it goes for the whole family. No one really want to hear anyone that they love and care about getting abused or having insults hurled at them. But I think they can also see it wasn't affecting me, and maybe that made it somewhat easier for them to deal with. Although, they don't want to hear it.

Yeah, that's just how it was last week.

Q. It's only three days since you guys won at Bethpage, what's your thoughts about the next captain?

TYRRELL HATTON: Well, I mean, Luke's done an incredible job the last 3 1/2 years. The amount of time, dedication that him and -- to have him put into that was amazing. Yeah, they have got a lot of stats to digest, but in terms of Ryder Cup Captain for Ireland, I don't know. It will be interesting to see who it is but I don't want to sort of make comment on any of that other than just saying I think we all know what an amazing job Luke's done.

Q. You've done the Jew any from Ryder Cup to Dunhill and finished second both times. How do you reset?

TYRRELL HATTON: I think it's the doughnuts on the ninth hole that just get me through; the halfway house is dangerous.

Obviously every week you go into, you always try your best. But as I said earlier, I think the slightly more relaxed nature of this week plays a part. Playing the Ryder Cup the week before under such an intense microscope, your game gets lifted normally in those environments and I feel like I played some really good golf at times last week.

Yeah, just try and take that into this week and hopefully I can get myself another opportunity to win this tournament.

Q. Keegan Bradley made a remark about the crowd -- would you compare the two atmospheres Rome and Bethpage, is that laughable?

TYRRELL HATTON: Personally, I don't think they were close at all. I certainly, with what I heard last week, I don't think Rome comes anywhere near that. To be honest, personally, I don't agree with what they both said there. I don't know what else to add to that. I think they are quite far apart to be honest.

Q. Now that you've had time to reflect, can you describe exactly what that feeling was like, getting the half-point needed to win the Ryder Cup?

TYRRELL HATTON: Well, I don't feel like I've had a lot of time to reflect if I'm honest. I think starting from next week where I've got some time off, that will allow me to sit down and sort of take in what we've all just experienced.

But yeah, winning or securing the half-point that got us over the line is a great feeling. But at the end of the day, it's a team effort. We did an amazing job Friday and Saturday, and although Sunday was an extremely difficult day, yeah, we've achieved it as a team. So it was very special.
