TOUR CHAMPIONSHIP

August 21, 2025

Patrick Cantlay

Atlanta, Georgia, USA

East Lake Golf Club

Quick Quotes

Q. I didn't get a chance to look at that leaderboard. How did you play today?

PATRICK CANTLAY: 6-under today.

Q. Nice playing.

PATRICK CANTLAY: Thank you.

Q. Can you talk us through it, please.

PATRICK CANTLAY: Yeah. I thought I played really well. I drove it well, hit a bunch of fairways and made a bunch of mid-range putts, which is kind of the name of the game here. There's some harder holes where you're kind of playing for par, and there's some other holes where you get a wedge in your hands and you can play aggressively.

Q. Did it play much different from last year, turf condition, all that stuff?

PATRICK CANTLAY: The conditions have settled a little bit and gotten better. The greens are still new, but I would say they're faster than last year.

With the rain they're a little soft, but the ball still bounces up pretty good with the mid and long irons.

Q. The Ryder Cup, is that on your mind this week?

PATRICK CANTLAY: I'm not worrying too much about that this week. I'm worried about the task at hand; those kind of things will take care of themselves.

Q. What made you want to be on another committee?

PATRICK CANTLAY: Tiger asked me to be on the committee, so I said yes.

Q. What did you think of it yesterday? Did you listen to what Brian said?

PATRICK CANTLAY: I was out practicing. I haven't seen what he said yet.

Q. What's been your impressions of Brian so far?

PATRICK CANTLAY: I've been very impressed. I think he's very sharp, and you can tell that he cares a lot and cares about learning what the PGA TOUR is about. So far, I've been impressed. He's only been at the job for a few weeks, so I look forward to working with him a little bit over this year.

Q. When they talk about a blank sheet of paper or even what Jay said last year, everything is on the table, is there anything they could do that they shouldn't? Is there any part of golf that is untouchable?

PATRICK CANTLAY: I'm sure one of the strongest things about the PGA TOUR is our tradition, traditions of the game. I think it's about a blend, marrying the best possible situation, the best commercial situation with still honoring the traditions of the game.

Q. Have you heard any feedback from players about there being a ninth Signature Event?

PATRICK CANTLAY: No, I haven't heard much talk from anybody.

Q. Are you good with it? It is going to create some -- even for those of you guys who are in them all, going to create maybe some tough calls because there's a lot of golf in that stretch.

PATRICK CANTLAY: Yeah. Yeah. I'd say every year, people look at the schedule and certain guys decide to take certain weeks off. I know I've talked with Jordan a lot, and he puts a lot of emphasis on playing those Texas events.

With the way the schedule has worked out, different people are going to have to make decisions for the schedule, but there's nothing new. That's something that we've dealt with on the TOUR every year, Signature Events or not.

Q. Have you ever skipped a Signature Event, and could you see yourself doing so?

PATRICK CANTLAY: I don't think I have. I wouldn't want to. But it could happen some day.

Q. In that big April-May stretch, do you now not play Zurich with Xander anymore?

PATRICK CANTLAY: Well, I didn't play this year. Yeah, I'd have to take a closer look at the schedule. I haven't figured out where I'm going to be playing next spring yet, but that definitely is a busy time of the year.

Q. There was a shot clock on some form of television. I actually didn't see it except on social media and I don't know which broadcast it was on, but it was you and Shane and how far out of position you were. Were you aware they were going to be publicizing that, and how did you feel about it? Did you feel singled out?

PATRICK CANTLAY: I know, I talked to a lot of guys last week. The course was playing really tough, so almost every group was behind time par.

Q. They chose you.

PATRICK CANTLAY: Yeah, obviously I'm not in control of the broadcast or what kind of stuff they put on there. But I'm not really worried about it. I'm trying to make the lowest score out there.
