JOHN DEERE CLASSIC

July 4, 2025

Camilo Villegas

Silvis, Illinois, USA

TPC Deere Run

Quick Quotes

Q. Camilo, what was working so well for out there today?

CAMILO VILLEGAS: A little bit of everything. Obviously I rolled it nice. Couple times I got out of position, I got up and down; No. 6, 8, and 12. Yeah, it was a good day, just like yesterday, and kept the ball in front of me.

Q. What does it mean to play like this? Seems like you blocked out a lot and came to John Deere and made some magic.

CAMILO VILLEGAS: How did you start the question?

Q. It's been a struggle of a season for you.

CAMILO VILLEGAS: Yeah, yeah.

Q. How do you block it all out and play so well today?

CAMILO VILLEGAS: Oh, you don't. You know when you're playing good and you know when you're playing bad and you know when you're working on the right things and you know when you're struggling.

Yes, it's been a frustrating year. I've struggled with my ball striking. I guess couple weeks ago I kind of told myself to stop thinking so much crap and try it simplify things. Last week I hit the ball a little bit better.

This week I hit some nice shots, rolled the putter good, and I am trying to keep it a little more simple than normal.

Q. Can you speak to the course and how it's playing for you? There are still some very tough holes and you made some of it look playable.

CAMILO VILLEGAS: This is obviously a very scorable golf courses we've seen over the years. This year it's playing a little bit different where we haven't had the storms and then playing lift, clean, and place.

So makes this design a lot better, and you got to think your way a little bit more. Even though with the high temperatures it's really tricky to get the greens extremely firm, but, I mean, it might get windier in the afternoon, gustier, and it's definitely going to be playing a little bit more difficult than previous years.

Q. I hate to bring this up, but you're one of the older players in the field this week. Story this week has been all the amateurs, young studs. Do you have a take on that, and do you struggle trying to keep up with them or just play your own game?

CAMILO VILLEGAS: It's just life, man. I was one of them, too, back in the day. But it goes quick, so to all those youngsters, enjoy it. I've been fortunate to play out here for 24 years or play as a pro for 22 years I guess.

I feel good. I work on my body. I work on my nutrition, flexibility and stuff. Yes, the game has changed. There is guys that are ripping it, hitting it very, very far.

You try to keep up when it comes to that, but you try to just use your experience and then play some good golf out there.

Q. What's your goal and the game plan for the weekend?

CAMILO VILLEGAS: Keep doing what I've been doing the last couple days. I'm going to have a later tee time. Kind of nice to be in contention. I haven't been in that position recently. Last few times I was it was in Mexico, which I finished second and Bermuda which I won. So I was very proud of the way I performed those two events.

Looking forward to just trying to do the same thing this week.

Q. Being top of the leaderboard, how much do you feel the presence of your daughter out there more?

CAMILO VILLEGAS: Yeah, you know what, she's always up there, man. Going back to Bermuda when I won, looking up in the sky and thinking about her was very special. Having Mia's Miracles Foundation has been really healing and it's been really cool to see the support. This country is unbelievable when it comes to charity.

We got a chance to do it in connection with the PGA TOUR and just raise a lot of dollars for people that need it. Now my wife and I and the whole Mia's Miracle team gets a chance to do it more personally.

Our donors have been unbelievable. The energy, my peers have been great when it comes to my event. Yeah, we're trying to turn what was a tricky story into something very positive, bring smiles to those in need. Like I said, it kind of fills our hearts.
