DOW GREAT LAKES BAY INVITATIONAL

July 16, 2021

Cristie Kerr

Stephanie Meadow

Midland, Michigan, USA

Midland Country Club

Press Conference

Q. Cristie, take me through how important it is to not go backwards at all.

CRISTIE KERR: Yeah, we never really got a ton of momentum going out there. Stephanie hit so many good putts that burned the edge all day, and I didn't really give her a lot of really close birdie opportunities. To not go backwards doing that and to be able to make birdie on the last hole and have a chance tomorrow is big.

Q. Can you take us through having a chance tomorrow? Five shots back right now; that seems like anything could happen tomorrow.

STEPHANIE MEADOW: Yeah, best ball, you get on a roll, you can shoot 12, 13-under. Anything can happen, and I think give yourself some looks and feed off each other like we did yesterday, and hopefully we can time it correctly and make birdies on opposite holes.

Q. When you can have this type of atmosphere, something we really haven't had in quite a while, how much are you feeding off that? Are there some nerves getting adjusted back to this?

CRISTIE KERR: I think there's definitely more nerves in an alternate shot format than there will be in a best ball format. But it's good to feel. We haven't played in front of fans in a while, and it's great to have them back.

STEPHANIE MEADOW: Yeah, I agree. I'm also playing with Cristie, so there's people shouting her name from the side of fairways, which is not really something I'm used to. But I feed off it and I love it, and I think it's a huge honor to be playing with somebody that --

CRISTIE KERR: I pay them to do it, though.

STEPHANIE MEADOW: Yeah, I know, they're strategically placed. I think it's really cool. I think I play better when I'm under a little bit of pressure, so it's pretty cool.

Q. Who picked up the walk-up song?

CRISTIE KERR: We sort of both did. We need to dance a little more often and make birdie. They were like, You're really embarrassing when we walked up to the green. I'm like, Really? Oh, God, I'm a mom now.

Q. Looking at tomorrow, what was the strategy yesterday, and will that change or will it remain the same?

STEPHANIE MEADOW: It's probably going to be pretty similar. There's only a few holes where we hit it identical distance, so we don't have the kind of opportunity to be like someone hit short and someone go for something.

I think we just stick to what we've been doing and hit wedges close.

CRISTIE KERR: You literally could shoot 10 to 14-under in best ball. I mean, I think we're both going to have to bring it tomorrow to have a chance to win. It'll be nice to be a couple groups back and have less eyeballs on us. But if we can get off to a hot start and continue, there is no reason why you couldn't get most of them.

Weather is supposed to be good, and we're just going to go out there and do our best.
