Shane Lowry

Dublin, Ohio, USA

Muirfield Village

Quick Quotes

Q. Solid round of 2-under out there today. Give us an idea of conditions out on the course.

SHANE LOWRY: Yeah, it's tricky. This golf course, we were quite lucky it rained during the week, early on in the week, because if it had been playing like that for the week it would have been really, really difficult. It's still quite difficult even when it was soft, but as it firmed up today, it was quite tough. You had to hit fairways to be able to hit greens, and then if you shortsided yourself, you're a lot of bother. Even just sort of my last few holes the wind actually got up quite a lot so the leaders will have that to contend with over the back nine as well.

Q. Last major PGA Championship you had a lovely finish there with Padraig Harrington, finished in the top-5. Next majore, U.S. Open, you played well in the past at Torrey Pines but how much are you looking forward to that now?

SHANE LOWRY: Yeah, I'm excited. I'm coming off a decent week at Kiawah and another decent week here, got a week off next week, so I'm excited to go out to Torrey Pines and hopefully, you know, a place that I really like. I haven't played there in a while but I've shot a couple of decent scores there. Obviously that's in the tournament that's there at the start of the year and it's obviously going to be a different golf course when we get there for the U.S. Open, but I know the golf course quite well and it would be nice to be able to go there and kind relax myself into the week and hopefully kind of get off to a good start and hopefully put up another good performance.

Q. On the Jon Rahm situation, obviously incredibly disappointing, but what's your opinion on that and what's the vibe been like in the players lounge?

SHANE LOWRY: Yeah, I think, I mean, it's so difficult isn't it? Like, I would be absolutely (inaudible) if it was me. It's such a difficult situation, a difficult situation for everyone. The TOUR, you know, they had some tough calls to make and that's just the world we're living in at the minute. It's just not really fair, is it? You know, luckily enough Jon Rahm is one of the best players in the world and will be for a long time and he'll have more chances to win tournaments. So if it was someone else who wouldn't really get the opportunities that he's going to get it could be a lot worse, so I'm sure Jon will kind of dust himself off and get back, hopefully, I don't know what the time line is. Hopefully he gets back for the U.S. Open and then kick off the summer. But obviously, I think to put it into context the round of golf he played yesterday, I think it was the best round of golf I've ever seen because I think this golf course was like as difficult as you can get a golf course yesterday. So like I was looking at the leaderboard going around and I just couldn't believe what the leaders were doing. And I was 1-under for the day, which was turned out to be a pretty good score. But he's got to be frustrated, because he was obviously playing so well.
