VALSPAR CHAMPIONSHIP

May 2, 2021

Justin Thomas

Palm Harbor, Florida, USA

Innisbrook Resort (Copperhead)

Quick Quotes

Q. Some quick comments on taking over the top spot in the FedExCup?

JUSTIN THOMAS: Yeah, it's great. I would much rather take it over at the end of the year. I've fortunately been in this position before. It's doesn't change anything, I'm not trying to play any differently. I'm still behind D.J. for No. 1 in the world and that's what I'm chasing down right now. But I'm really, I'm playing some really good golf and I'm really, really close to, I feel like, getting it going here pretty good. So, yeah, it's a good kind of bonus for a so-so week.

Q. I think you're 1 off the tee and 2nd in approach. What feels really good about the swing right now?

JUSTIN THOMAS: When I feel like I can kind of lay it off at the top and try to hit pull cuts, that's what really was my thought at THE PLAYERS, I've had a lot of good ball striking rounds doing that. My miss, I'm still getting a little stuck underneath it, but it's close. I mean, my good shots are really, really good right now and the consistency is there. I just need to see a couple putts fall. I putted a lot better this weekend in terms of result-wise, I made some more, but it was playing tough out there and it was hard, those greens were getting really tough and with that wind it was even more difficult. So I felt like I got a little bit closer in that aspect.

Q. Was there anything you did differently with the putting over the weekend?

JUSTIN THOMAS: No, I just was trying to focus a little bit more on speed and how far I was trying to hit it as opposed to how hard. Sometimes I get a little wrapped up in trying to maybe hit it harder instead of farther and when I do that I kind of drag the handle and that's when I hit that one to the right. So that's just a tendency in my stroke. So I really was just trying to focus on speed and speed I was trying to hit the putt and stay stable.

Q. What's your schedule that you know upcoming?

JUSTIN THOMAS: Next week and then a week off and then three in a row. I think.
