Q. Great start, you must be feeling over the moon?
SHAMIM KHAN: I'm very happy. I played very well and my putting was very good. I took only 24 putts.

Q. Five birdies and no bogeys, I'm sure the other parts of the game were working well?
SHAMIM KHAN: My driving was also very good today.

Q. SSP Chowrasia won a big event three weeks ago, does this inspire you?
SHAMIM KHAN: SSP is an old friend of mine. I have been inspired by his victory. It has set the tone for us to do well in the international events that come to India.

Q. Can you talk us through your birdies?
SHAMIM KHAN: 11th - five iron, off the green, putted in from 25 feet
16th - six iron to 35 feet.
18th - Driver, three wood, two putts from 35 feet
7th - Driver, wedge, short of the green, chipped in
9th - Driver, four iron, sandwedge to 12 feet

Q. Tell us a bit about your background?
SHAMIM KHAN: I was a junior golfer in 1994 and turned professional in 1995. Then went on to play on the domestic Tour. I was regularly in the top-10 of the domestic Tour.

Q. Thoughts for the rest of the week?
SHAMIM KHAN: I'm concentrating on my game and will take it one step at a time.

Q. Did you think you could shoot a 67 at the start of the day?
SHAMIM KHAN: One always want to play your best. When the birdies started, I kept setting new targets and that was how I shot a 67.

Q. How was the greens?
SHAMIM KHAN: The lines aren't too difficult to read. You have to adjust to it. The adaption makes you perform.

Q. How does it feel to be leading a big tournament in India and with a few of the world's top players behind you?
SHAMIM KHAN: I'm really happy that in a star-studded field, I'm at the top of the leaderboard. I can't explain it in words.
