AUSTRALIAN OPEN

January 21, 2007

Mario Ancic

MELBOURNE, VICTORIA

THE MODERATOR: Questions.

Q. Tough loss. Obviously served so well. To be beaten in those circumstances must be difficult.
MARIO ANCIC: Yeah, I mean, losing to Andy in five sets. I think was a great match. Last two, three balls decided the whole match.
I have to be honest and say middle of the fourth set, I pick up my serve, started serving really, really well. In fifth, as well. That gave me a lot of confidence.
Unfortunately, you know, happens he's a great player. He find a way. Missed these two volleys when he broke me. But I think, as well, he started to serve really, really big in the fifth. Throughout the whole match, I was really almost getting it more and more as the match was progressing. In the fifth set, he really picked up. A lot of first serves, a lot of aces. Didn't give me too many chances to come back after the break.

Q. Is he playing more patient now?
MARIO ANCIC: I think he's serving much better than he used to. Yeah, I think overall he's much better player than last time definitely that we play. Like I said after the Wimbledon last year, I think the only way for him is up. It shows, two days ago beating Marat. Today, as well, I think was a high-quality match. He came through as a winner.
