September 4, 1998

Sergi Bruguera

FLUSHING MEADOWS, NEW YORK

Q. Have you lost interest in tennis?

SERGI BRUGUERA: No, but I mean, I am not playing very good and my mind is not the same as it used to be. I lose motivation a little bit and sense of fight, but I want to recover this. I expect to recover.

Q. It is sad to see you playing like this after we remember '93, '94, even Lipton last year, and to see you like this, it is shocking. Do you think you need some time off from the game?

SERGI BRUGUERA: No, I had.

Q. What have you tried to do in the last six months to --

SERGI BRUGUERA: Not too much. I was not very ambitious, didn't work very hard.

Q. Are you training regularly?

SERGI BRUGUERA: No, I stopped two months after the French.

Q. To maybe clear your head?

SERGI BRUGUERA: Yeah.

Q. Did it work?

SERGI BRUGUERA: Not too good.

Q. Is there something personal that is prying on you?

SERGI BRUGUERA: If it's something personal I am not going to say.

Q. Do you think about retiring at all?

SERGI BRUGUERA: Well, I am 27, no. 26 in a year -- in '96 I was about the same and next year I reached the final in the French and I was -- I finished 8th of the year.

Q. This is --

SERGI BRUGUERA: This is exactly the same as '96.

Q. You had an injury in '96; didn't you?

SERGI BRUGUERA: Yeah, and I had an injury also this year. Plenty of injuries.
