AMERICAN CENTURY CELEBRITY GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP

July 19, 2003

Chris Chandler

Billy Joe Tolliver

STATELINE, NEVADA

Q. Tell us about your rounds, starting with Billy Joe.

BILLY JOE TOLLIVER: Well, I played pretty well today. My wedge game was poor, but other than that I had a lot of wedges that I hit to 20, 25 feet and I didn't hit any of them close.

But we'll fix that and see how it goes. I made one bogey and three birdies, and, you know, in this format, you've got to -- bogey means nothing, because yesterday, I had eight bogeys yesterday and got 20 points. I mean, I should have got five points yesterday, but I made five birdies.

I got three more points today and I played, what, seven shots better or five shots better than I did yesterday. So I've got to start hitting it closer to have a chance, because I'm telling you, Wagner is going to be in at 51, Bart is going to be in at 51. You have to get to 75, 76, 77 to have a chance. I'm no genius, but I did go to Texas Tech, so I know at 43, I'm just going to have to throw a little 33, 34 up there to have a chance.

CHRIS CHANDLER: It wasn't too bad. I hit it in the water on 1 and made bogey, but I made five birdies coming in. Like Joe, I didn't hit any sand wedges in there close. I had a lot of chances. Had some lip-outs and just waiting for some more putts to drop. I've been hitting good. I think one thing Jack (Wagner) really does well out here is he putts good on these greens.

BILLY JOE TOLLIVER: He putts really good anyway.

CHRIS CHANDLER: Just need some more putts to drop. I've been hitting fine. Been having a lot of fun out there.

Q. Do you think it's going to take 75 to win it?

BILLY JOE TOLLIVER: I think you're going to have to get to 73, 74, 75,76. Rhoden is not going to sit there and just take it. He's at 45, so I'm looking at him shooting 67, 66 tomorrow and that's going to be another 30 points so he's at 75.

You have your bad day out here, 18, 19, 20, you look at the guys that are at 51, if they get to 20 --

CHRIS CHANDLER: It will be 70 to 75, or 75 preferably.

BILLY JOE TOLLIVER: Unfortunately we didn't play ourselves into the last group. In a Stableford format, you need the holes. You don't need to be posting a number and sitting in the clubhouse. You need the holes to see what you've got to do. But, hey, you know, I'll take 75 right now.

CHRIS CHANDLER: Still got to eagle 16 and 18 and 3 and 4. And maybe 12. Preferably 17.

BILLY JOE TOLLIVER: It would be nice to make an ace on 17.

CHRIS CHANDLER: Want that car?

BILLY JOE TOLLIVER: If I make an ace on 17, I'll buy the car. I want the ace on 7 more than 17 because I want that car. I can fool the big mam; I can tell her, I got $500,000. Give me the car. Hey, she won't know. Don't print that, she'll know.

Q. What do you think it's going to take for to you win it tomorrow, what do you have to do?

BILLY JOE TOLLIVER: What am I at, 43? So, you know, I've got to get 30 points. I've got to get 30 points to have a chance, I think at 73, 72 or 71, then we'll see. But I really think that these guys are going to go out and get 25, 24, 23 points and now you're looking at 74, 75.

Q. You guys like the format a lot?

CHRIS CHANDLER: Yeah, I do. I wish I had gotten off to a better start yesterday. You don't have the ability to have someone make a big, big number and really come back, because minus two, if the guy makes a quad or a triple, you'd like to have minus six but it's not going to happen.

Hopefully it really blows tomorrow. I hope it just is blowing. (Laughter.)

BILLY JOE TOLLIVER: I hope it's calm and I get to slaw me a 5-wood that goes in the hole on the par 5 for ten points.

CHRIS CHANDLER: I hope it's blowing like a mother.

BILLY JOE TOLLIVER: He hits it 40 yards by me, so he wants to blow. I just hope the guys ahead of me blow. (Laughter.)

Q. Do you like the format?

BILLY JOE TOLLIVER: I liked it yesterday. I loved it yesterday. Today I didn't like it. I was under par today so I'd rather play stroke-play today. But yesterday when I was sucking it in, I made a bunch of birdies, I loved it. I think it's good because it gives guys a chance to run at the thing. Let's go fire at birdies. You know, birdies all that matters. Hopefully if we say this enough times, those guys ahead of us, that's what they will believe in; birdie is all that matters, and they will go seven or eight holes where they don't get any points at all.

CHRIS CHANDLER: Me and Billy, we'll be going at them. We'll be going at birdies from the first tee box.

BILLY JOE TOLLIVER: I'm either going to get 33 points tomorrow or I'm going to get 7. I'm either going to go low or I'm going to get no points.

CHRIS CHANDLER: You're right. That's the only chance we have.
