6-3, 1-6, 7-6
THE MODERATOR: Questions in English.
Q. Congratulations on your win, and also congratulations on a PSG win for you as a fan. You've written about Fabian. Can you please tell how much are you involved into football, and how do you maybe visit matches in support?
QUENTIN HALYS: That was good yesterday, because after 25 minutes, I could have gone to bed, because the match was over (smiling).
No, I'm a big fan. I have my seasons ticket at PSG. Unfortunately, with my schedule, it's tough to go to the matches, but yeah, I am a big fan since long time now. Yeah, I think it's really pleasant to be a PSG fan nowadays, and especially yesterday the match was quite good.
So, yeah, I'm happy about the win.
THE MODERATOR: Questions in French.
Q. Talking about that, you have a season ticket?
QUENTIN HALYS: Yes.
Q. How many times do you go per season?
QUENTIN HALYS: Well, not many. I give my tickets to friends or family, but whenever I can, I go.
Q. Tell us about the end of the match here. It was a crazy end of a match today.
QUENTIN HALYS: Well, it's still very early. I was dominated for a long time. He didn't serve so well at one point in the first set, but then in the tiebreak, we were both average, really. There was no real domination.
I can't say there is a really rational explanation. Maybe at 7, then it was a 50/50 chance.
I played a forehand which wasn't that difficult. He missed. Well, honestly, the tiebreak was not the best tiebreak in history.
Q. Is it the best victory in your career? Because we remember Rublev yesterday who was No. 9. Now Frances Tiafoe. The context, the environment, the Paris audience, is this the best win in your victory?
QUENTIN HALYS: It's difficult to say, but I guess it's a great victory. I haven't got all my matches in mind, but I did quite a few good things this year.
To be honest, I don't really pay a lot of attention to ranking. I didn't think he was top 10 before Marc Maury introduced us.
But it's a great victory. It's great. I had great emotions today. But I have had two good victories in Roland Garros this year, which really are close to my heart. I believe that I'm doing well in Roland and here, but I guess Grand Slams are very special.
Well, today it's one of the victories I will remember, that's for sure, as he's probably the top player I won.
Q. We were talking about victories against top-10 players. You had very good matches against de Minaur and Zverev. Do you think that in the preparation for these matches you can use what you did in those matches?
QUENTIN HALYS: Well, I almost made it, but at the same time, I was never close to winning. Every time it's like 6-4, 7-5, and I was dominated, but this time I managed to win. While even the four times I played against Zverev, every time I seemed to be more of a problem for him, but he's No. 1, and he's playing incredibly well this season. I guess playing against them, this has improved my game level.
Thanks to that, I can beat this kind of player, because I know right from the start that I can hold against them, and my mind frame is different from what it was before.
What's important is to win these important points that shift a match and tip it on my side. Sometimes it's an issue of four, five, six points, and this time even less.
Q. Picking up on what you said, it's the second match you win winning the tiebreak. Do you think that in this type of exercise, which is important for this type of tournament, you can master it better?
QUENTIN HALYS: Well, due to my game style, I'm rather good in tiebreaks, because usually I put a lot of pressure on people, thanks to my serve.
But indoor, like this, it's really very close. You have to be good, the best, on the two or three key points and seize the opportunities. You have to be extremely focused and play as best you can these three, four little points.
It's an exercise I like, because thanks to my serve, I can put pressure on my opponent.
Q. Do you feel that your tournament is a success, or do you want to go even further with the next round?
QUENTIN HALYS: Well, obviously it's a success up till now, but I want to win. I feel able to win tomorrow, and it's positive. I want to go even further, and I feel I have got chance of going further.
I will have a player with the same type of game, an American who moves well. Maybe this is not their best surface. It's a bit fast for them. They're better playing on outdoor hard, because the rebound is higher, but I'm convinced I can play my trump cards, but it will be a difficult match, as well.
