Press Conference
THE MODERATOR: Okay, joining us ahead of the 2026 TOTO Japan Classic is Miyu Yamashita. Miyu, you won last week at Maybank and you won two other times this year. How does it feel to come into this event having such a good season?
MIYU YAMASHITA: I'm glad to be back with three wins this season, but every tournament I just try to focus on my game and what's best condition.
Winning three tournament, it means confidence definitely, but I still have something I need to sort, so I just want to keep going with this condition.
THE MODERATOR: Why do you think the Japanese players are having so much success on the LPGA Tour?
MIYU YAMASHITA: I think most of Japanese courses are very demanding, especially with narrow fairway, so you will be required to have a good ball striking. That's why I think Japanese player perform really well in the U.S.
THE MODERATOR: What or who inspired you to join the U.S. LPGA Tour?
MIYU YAMASHITA: So I was watching events of LPGA Tour, and then the top players in U.S. inspire me quite a lot. Last year, before then, I was just joining and playing in a major tournaments, and that is always inspirational.
I was eager to play in U.S. two years ago and I managed to pass qualify tournament, and luckily I joined the U.S. LPGA Tour.
So playing in the U.S. for one year definitely gave me lots of confidence, and then now I kind of manage how to sort out the schedule and everything. I'm accustomed to play in the U.S. by now.
THE MODERATOR: You're currently leading the Vare Trophy, which is the season-long low scoring average. What would it mean to win that award?
MIYU YAMASHITA: So the result is wanted, but actually I haven't well convinced myself, and I'm not happy with my performance sometimes, so there are some challenges I have to sort out.
So I just try to keep myself going.
