Kelly Tan

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club

Quick Quotes

Q. Kelly, thank you for joining us. Few questions to start things off. Could you describe how your round went today? How are you feeling?

KELLY TAN: Well, I guess I was nervous this morning for sure. I think just coming to the course and seeing the crowd queuing up at 6:30, just the whole environment.

I haven't competed a lot this year, so I thought I stayed pretty calm. I had a decent start. Pretty steady.

Honestly I didn't score that good today, but I definitely don't feel like I played like what my score shown next to my name. I played pretty good. I just few important putt I didn't quite make to keep momentum going for the round.

But all in all, I still felt I played pretty good, so I'm looking forward to tomorrow because I felt I have given myself a lot of chances, and I just need to go work my putting a little bit.

Q. Yeah, we noticed your front nine was pretty -- had 1-under and then second nine was few over.

KELLY TAN: Yeah.

Q. Is that what was going on, you just couldn't get the ball in the hole?

KELLY TAN: Actually when I turned I made a little mistake on one, which was my tenth.

Q. Yeah.

KELLY TAN: I was in the fairway bunker and then I played to the left and I think it take an unfortunate bounce and I was in the tall grass. I had to take an unplayable, and from there I don't have a shot to the green, so I had to kind of take a couple shots as the medicine I suppose.

So that was a double.

But, yeah, I guess the next bogey I made was six; short-sided myself.

And seven, hit it in the bunker.

Yeah, I just felt like the back nine I wasn't as good with my positioning for second shot.

My front nine my misses were not bad. Like I still left myself a long putt versus a short-sided chip.

So all in all, I still felt like I hit the ball pretty good, to be honest. Like I haven't hit a lot of balls this year, so ball striking, I'm very happy to see how it went.

Putting was a little disappointing today, but I think it can only get better from here.

Q. How did you find the course today?

KELLY TAN: Oh, I think it's in pristine shape considering we had a lot of rain yesterday. Very proud as an ambassador to showcase KLGCC in such a condition.

The greens were running, I'm not sure what exactly, but felt like 11 and a half, close to 12. It was perfect. I don't know, I mean, bunkers were great. Fairways were like pool tables.

Yeah, big shout out to team, the crew that put the course together for us.

Q. Final question from me: How good was it seeing your fans and everybody around coming to watch you here possibly for the final time?

KELLY TAN: Yeah, it's always a lot of fun to play in Malaysia, and especially this is probably the only event I get to have a lot of friends out. My mom and dad will try and travel to the U.S. and try and watch me once a year, maybe three events.

It's just different because I felt like I know 80% of the crowd, and being an ambassador here I spend a lot of time. I recognized a lot of familiar faces, so it just feels good.

Yeah, I'm excited for the next three days and hopefully I can put a better score next to my name.

Q. Good luck tomorrow.

KELLY TAN: Thank you.
