NASCAR CUP SERIES: YELLAWOOD 500

October 25, 2026

Ross Chastain

Lincoln, Alabama

Pit Lane Interview

Q. Ross, in the Mick at the end. What more could you have done?

ROSS CHASTAIN: Not sped on the first stop. We had a massive issue with our speed prediction. I completely forgot to go to the new lights on that first stop.

So stuck a lot down all day, and thought we were going to sweep a bucket of Busch Light camo into the trailer. Glad we made it and got our lap back. Thought we were going to get back the old-fashioned way, and that would have been really cool.

There on the last lap, Brandon McReynolds called to push the 5. Thankful he did it. He can see a lot better than I can. Glad that a Chevy won.

Q. How difficult is it as a driver being up front, because you could still win the race?

ROSS CHASTAIN: I tried to put myself in the best position to, one, race. I'm out here to race. Let's do that first. Lining up in front of Joey usually works out pretty good for me.

Yeah, we were just committed to each other. We pushed to the front once we got there. Yeah, I know it's weird. It's weird for me, too, in the car knowing that I'm leading the pack but not leading the race.

Gladly got our lap back and glad it worked out. Pretty humbling to make that mistake early and spend all day in a Cup race a lap down when it was all on me that we were a lap down in the first place.
