ROLEX SHANGHAI MASTERS

October 18, 2026

Lucas Miedler

Neil Oberleitner

Shanghai, China

Mixed Zone

MIEDLER-OBERLEITNER/Cabral-Tracy

6-3, 6-4

Q. Lucas, to win a Masters 1000 so early into the partnership, was that something that you expected so early?

LUCAS MIEDLER: I think if you never won a 1000 before, you cannot expect it to happen in the second week of our new partnership.

The idea was to play well together. I mean, that it works after Tokyo and second tournament in Shanghai here is unbelievable. I mean, we knew that our game style, they're matching, that it can work. That it works like this is just simply unbelievable, yeah.

Q. Neil, before today you had one ATP 250 title. What does it mean to be able to call yourself a Masters 1000 champion?

NEIL OBERLEITNER: Yeah, it's surreal. The feeling is crazy. Like Lucas said, we knew we were going to play good together, and of course you never know, but you have a feeling.

That it works in the second week obviously is great for us, and I'm excited what comes next. Obviously we try to keep it going and work on our game, improve, improve.

Yeah, it means a lot to me that I can show it on the big stage. I feel like I had it in me, but to show it and...

LUCAS MIEDLER: He needed me to show it (laughing).

NEIL OBERLEITNER: Exactly. Yeah, to have this title is unbelievable.

Q. How excited are you to have the opportunity to play with Lucas, who has more than 10 ATP titles, a bit more experience, etcetera. You must be able to learn a lot from him.

NEIL OBERLEITNER: Yeah, he's been on the doubles tour a little bit longer, and he's been on the big stage more often. I played some futures challengers, but it's a different feeling serving for your first Masters 1000 title, I get nervous, and he has a, like he helps me to stay calm. He played big matches in Vienna, on the center court in front of a lot of people, and, yeah, that's really helped me.

To see him calm, not that we talk about it, but he stays calm, I see him calm, and that is like what keeps me calm.

Q. Lucas, just a comment about the path to the title this week. As you look back on all the matches, how would you describe the performances, was it consistent throughout, was it up and down, how would you describe it?

LUCAS MIEDLER: I mean, the first round was kind of special because it was against Alex Erler, who I used to play a lot with or win most of my titles. They came in as an alternate, so we didn't plan to play them. Playing them is always a little tricky because you know each other so well.

To get over that match I think helped us a lot. The second round was, until today, our best match. I mean, the second round was really, really good.

Then, yeah, we just keep going, and get confidence, get used to the conditions. We kept working hard, and I think today the performance we shown on court today, I didn't see him getting nervous serving for the match, so, yeah, simply amazing.

Q. Before this week, had you committed to each other for 2027, and if not...

LUCAS MIEDLER: I told him I finish the career with him. He has to leave me. But I'm used to that.

NEIL OBERLEITNER: It's a long time, yeah, it was a partnership for a long time, and now that I think we confirmed it, because it's working. Obviously you never know.

We were fighting off court a lot, so that's why we are calm on the court. But, no.

LUCAS MIEDLER: Always with a good fun, yeah.

NEIL OBERLEITNER: So everything works great.
