ROLEX SHANGHAI MASTERS

October 17, 2026

Daniil Medvedev

Shanghai, China

Mixed Zone

R. JODAR/D. Medvedev

6-3, 6-4

Q. It's your first time playing Rafa, how was he?

DANIIL MEDVEDEV: He played good today. He was returning well. I think I could have been a bit better on my serve in terms of spots.

But also, yeah, he did put a lot of pressure on the return, and I think that was the difference, he was better on the return than I was.

Yeah, great player. I mean, he's top 10, so it's not like he's 60 in the world and we're starting to talk about him. He's a top-10 player, we never know who wins 25 Grand Slams, six, one, two, let's see.

Q. Going into the next tournament you have a bye in case, and it was quite a bit that you were not playing that much. I mean, I'm wondering, usually right now what you can do to recover, how is all the process for you?

DANIIL MEDVEDEV: Just need to do some physio work. Again, you don't have, it's a short turnaround, so you don't have time to work physically or something.

It's a bit like even anyway if you stay in the same tournament, you practice a bit, you try to get into the rhythm. It's an indoor court, so it's a bit different. Just try to recover physically, do some massages and try to play.

Q. Yesterday we asked you about if you plan to appeal the case in Beijing. Do you have any more progress on that, and do you just, you know, clarifying one last time, when you did move your racquet, what were you feeling in that moment? Was it in frustration at how it was going?

DANIIL MEDVEDEV: No, I think you can see a lot of videos where I'm frustrated, and you can see that this one was probably not one of them. If you look at some other videos, I've been more frustrated in my life than this one.

The ball came back to me so I just had a reflex to kind of, you know, I lost the point, I wanted to get rid of the ball, and definitely didn't want to hit anyone, so really unlucky.

I'm really grateful that's okay, because that's, you know, the most important. The rest is, how you call it, bureaucracy, I don't know if you have this word in English, but I'm glad that the guy's okay.

About the appeal? I don't know if I can comment. You know, like when the case is ongoing, I don't know, so I have no idea. Whenever it's finished I will comment.
