Quick Quotes
Q. Here with Alison after her third round at the Buick LPGA Shanghai. 5-under round. A little bit different than yesterday as far as conditions and just the overall play of the course. Can you talk about the main differences between those two rounds?
ALISON LEE: I would say this course is a beast. You know, this obviously isn't one of our major championships, but especially the first two days it definitely was playing like it. It was playing challenging. It was playing long. Even some of the greens as well. You have long clubs into a few holes where, I mean, you can't miss it or else you have a high chance of making a bogey.
The rules officials were kind to us today. They moved some of the tees up which made a couple of the really challenging holes a lot easier. Like nine is probably one of the toughest holes out there. All week I've been hitting a driver, 5-iron, driver, hybrid, and today they were able to move it up a bit.
It was still driver, 6-iron, but that just -- I mean, hitting one club less into a hole makes such a huge difference. 11 is also a really difficult hole.
But, yeah, I feel like today I really took advantage of those holes, especially where they moved the tee up. Nine usually playing really difficult. Definitely average score's probably over par. I was able to make a birdie there; and 11 as well.
So overall today just I was hitting it so much better. I feel like I got into the groove of things. After Solheim Cup I definitely took some time off, and I just didn't feel like I was hitting it my best the first couple days but got into a good groove today and made a lot of good putts.
Q. You mentioned taking advantage of these shorter holes and essentially avoiding pars as well, Hye-Jin and some of the others have been talking about. What do you have to do to take your medicine and realize maybe not this hole but there is some stuff out there?
ALISON LEE: It's definitely a grind out there. I would say there is only a small handful of clubs where you hit a shorter club in. And even on those holes where we hit a shorter club in, it's still playing very challenging. Like one hole we have it's probably wood off the tee and you hit a short iron in, but the greens are playing tough. It was straight downwind. It's really difficult to get to close to the pin.
So I would just say overall you just have to play pretty steady and try and stay in it and really fight out there. I mean, like I said, it's playing like a major championship where you have to kind of grind.
Today thankfully like I said, I took advantage of the way it was set up. I made a lot of really good putts. That was probably the biggest thing that helped me out.
Q. We talked to some players yesterday, really talked about the greens firming up throughout the day yesterday. Do you feel like it was still the case out there and just getting used to it, or have they softened up a little bit out there today?
ALISON LEE: I would definitely say some of the you definitely have to think out here. Like I said, with moving the tees up on a few holes, the rules officials being kind to us not really putting the pins like right at the front the green so that we have that room to land it on the green and can play for the release, it makes such a big difference.
I think I feel like I had a good round today but 100% you'll see a lot more scores in the red today, because especially yesterday -- I mean, yesterday especially because of the first day was super windy and today is very windy as well.
Yeah, it's just a grind. You just have to fight out there and thankfully today I was able to do that. And like I said, I just made some really, really good putts.
I think I still only hit 12 out of 18 greens. It's tough to hit the green and get -- green in regulation when you're hitting a 6-iron, hybrid into all of those greens.
But, yeah, I made a lot of really, really good putts and I think the winner tomorrow is definitely going to have to (indiscernible) but also just make a bunch of putts.
