Mixed Zone
T. PAUL/ Z. Bergs
7-6, 6-4
Q. A couple of key points there, 5-All, the big hold there in the first set. Also, when a guy comes back at you like from 4-love to 4-3, he seized the momentum, can you talk about what goes through your mind at that point?
TOMMY PAUL: I was surprised with the level. I mean, he brought a really good level.
I think he was hurting, so I wasn't sure how hard he was going to be serving, but I felt like his serve got better. Yeah, I think he brought a good level there, and he made me close it out, and that's exactly what he should do in that position.
Q. What went through your mind in that 5-All game in the first set where you just dug in?
TOMMY PAUL: I just kept telling myself, if I get broken, I'm going to break back. You got to be confident in yourself, and especially in those situations.
I mean, when you feel like you can convince yourself that it's not a big deal, the pressure's not as big.
Q. Looking ahead to Medvedev, he's won the three meetings on hard that you've had. Do you look to change any patterns of what's happened in the past?
TOMMY PAUL: Hopefully, yeah (laughing). I think, with Medvedev, we've had some good matches and some bad matches.
I think he's a guy that you have to come in with a game plan, and it has to be a good game plan, because he's not going to miss many balls, and he's going to make you earn every single point. I'm going to have to come with the mindset to be out there all day, and also really execute my game plan.
