Q. Blake, we didn't get to talk to you after your last outing. Have you been able to go back, look at the tape, see what was missing or what led to the walks or the results in that one to put you in a better position for tomorrow?
BLAKE SNELL: I didn't look at video or anything like that. Just a lot of time talking to myself, figuring out where I need to get to, where I'm at. That's pretty much it. Watching two games against Milwaukee, just kind of game planning, seeing what I can expose, what they're doing really well. Just trying to figure them out.
Q. When you look at this series, it's a long one, with the team being down 0-2, is there either a feeling or a responsibility that with the win tomorrow, you guys could completely shift the momentum and the feeling of this series?
BLAKE SNELL: I think, yeah, a big thing is momentum. Once you shift it, especially at home, anything can happen. We saw what happened when we played Toronto. I'm not worried. We've just got to get it going. I think, once we do that, we'll be fine.
Q. Just the way the first two games went, last year you have a big start against them in Game 1. Do you kind of take it upon yourself to say, hey, I've got to be that dude to put a stop to it. That's why they signed me a year ago. Or do you even think about it?
BLAKE SNELL: I don't think about last year because it has nothing to do with this year. It's a completely different team. Just from experience, growth, mindset, discipline, where they're at, even the way Pat -- like the way Pat's talking is way different than how he was talking last year.
It's a completely different team. I'm well aware of that. Yeah, this game and what it means to me, it hasn't changed. 0-2, 2-0, it wouldn't matter. I know what I need to do. I know what I need to do to win and dominate. I'm going to just focus on that.
Q. Obviously a lot of stops and starts for you this season. How frustrating has it been at different points, and how much does that sort of maybe fuel how you want to sort of finish off this stretch and have a couple of really good starts here in October?
BLAKE SNELL: It's definitely everything. Yeah, at the same time, I'm happy to -- I've kind of gone through all this. I think it's made me mentally more stronger, and it's just taught me a lot about how to just kind of battle the adversity.
What I've gone through is only going to make me better. I'm definitely excited about where I'm at right now. That's kind of the cool part. I know where I'm at, and you guys kind of have to guess. But I like where I'm at.
Q. What sort of gives you that confidence? How much is how physically you're feeling after the time off at the start of the year and surgery, and how much of that is how you feel you're starting to execute a little bit?
BLAKE SNELL: I think it's both. Physically I feel good. I think after that last start, just kind of getting back to me and the conversations I would have and why I want to be great, why I'm playing, having those conversations have really helped.
Q. Your last start would be October 4th. Tomorrow is 14th. Is there anything you did with that long layoff between starts to keep your arm ready?
BLAKE SNELL: Yeah, I threw a couple bullpens. I've just been really, really focused, and I've had a lot of intense catch days where I've really gotten on the ball and tried to get tired. It didn't work, but I tried.
Yeah, I'm not -- the time off, I'll be ready. I'll feel great, and I'll be able to go as long as they need.
Q. When you say getting back to you, is that mental sequencing, or is that mechanical?
BLAKE SNELL: More mental, yeah. The mechanics are -- I like where I'm at. I really think pitching is -- I think it's 80 percent mental. Everyone was saying 90 and other numbers, but for me it's 80 percent.
The way I talk to myself, the way I understand lineups and kind of go about it is really 80 percent mental, and 20 percent is really the rest of the equation.
Yeah, I've been gifted, like I could throw a baseball, I could do a lot of cool things, but I definitely think the mind is what controls the outcome.
Q. Blake, you didn't start against the Brewers when they came here in August, but you saw them the last two games with this kind of relentless approach. What have you learned about this team from watching them this time compared to maybe seeing them the last time in August?
BLAKE SNELL: I've noticed -- I've watched all their interviews. I've noticed how they talk. A lot of one-on-one competition is like a key for them. Even the way that Pat talks and how he talks to the team is way different than last year.
So I understand that. Yeah, your goal is how do you counter that, and how do you get them into a place, a different place? I think they're in a good spot now, especially being up 2-0, but adversity hits, and that's when thoughts start racing.
