Mixed Zone
T. PAUL/V. Vacherot
6-4, 6-2
Q. Looked like you were just powering right to the finish line there. Never let up the momentum.
TOMMY PAUL: Hell of a game. That's the goal always, you know.
Q. The intensity was there. Was it just one of those nights you felt in the zone and that good things were going to happen?
TOMMY PAUL: Yeah, I mean, I thought I returned well. I thought I was moving well tonight.
I thought I could have served a little better there in the first set. Yeah, I mean, no need to panic, it's a tennis match.
Q. It was the first meeting with Valentin and yourself. What were you expecting going in, and did it play out how you thought it was going to go?
TOMMY PAUL: I mean, I would love every match to go like that, it was great. But, yeah, I mean, I knew he had a great serve. Maybe he wasn't finding his spots or his percentage was a little lower today.
But I think I played his patterns well and put a lot of returns in and, yeah, I thought I played well.
Q. What's the key to keeping yourself in a winning position and the body healthy this deep into the season?
TOMMY PAUL: I mean, hire good people (laughing). Have a good physio and a good trainer and good coach. That's important. And to take time off. You got to listen to your body.
Q. Finally, looking ahead to Bergs in the next round. Thoughts on that match.
TOMMY PAUL: Excited. This is our second time playing. First time was in Indian Wells, played a pretty good match.
He was playing great tennis today. He served super well and was playing super aggressive, so that's what I'll be looking for in the next match.
