I. SWIATEK/I. Jovic
6-1, 6-3
Q. Obviously you always talk about step by step, taking every match one at a time. What do you think you improved on this match compared to the last one?
IGA SWIATEK: It's tough to compare because obviously two different opponents with two different game styles.
For sure I was using more of the chances that I got. I was more proactive. Maybe changing the directions more instead of just being solid, more intense.
But yeah, I'm happy that I didn't lose my (indiscernible) on the other hand. When I needed that, I could play long rallies and be in defense, as well. Everything was working today.
Q. How confident do you think you are in your game play right now moving forward?
IGA SWIATEK: I think even without these matches, I get a lot of confidence from the practice days that I had. I feel like my game has improved. Obviously sometimes playing the tournament is a bit tricky. Not everything is depending on you. I believe what I'm doing makes sense moving forward. That gives me the most confidence.
For sure when you have great results on a match, it's always a good boost of confidence. But tennis is tough. You need to be ready for every match. Your previous results are not going to give you anything.
I'm going to push no matter what and we'll see how it goes.
Q. Is the 20th year of the China Open. You won in 2023. Do you have some good memories of the China Open? Can you say something to the China Open?
IGA SWIATEK: Of course, I have great memories. In 2023, this is the first 1000 tournament that I won. It really cheered me up, I would say. It made my season a little bit more complete.
It has changed a lot for me. I really like coming back here. It's a great tournament to be. They make such a great facilities for athletes as well.
Even without the good memories, I would love to come back here.
Q. In terms of you and Francis, after having a bit of a training block after US Open, what are the focuses these days? What are the consistent topics that you two are constantly talking about?
IGA SWIATEK: Obviously every training block is focused on a little bit different things. What sums it up overall is that he wants me to be more smooth on the court, my movement not to be so sometimes stuck in the ground, but more like I'm just kind of dancing on the court. That smoothness will give me more power at the end. This is what we're working on. I think it's going great.
Also, yeah, many different things, but this is the core base.
