NL DIVISION SERIES: PADRES VS BREWERS

October 7, 2026

Pat Murphy

San Diego, California, USA

Petco Park

Milwaukee Brewers

Postgame 4 Press Conference

Brewers - 3, Padres - 1

Q. How does it feel to win this year, especially here in San Diego, after everything that's gone through in your career, obviously a couple years ago, and doing this right now?

PAT MURPHY: San Diego Padres are special to me because, one, I have so many friends still here. My son plays in the organization thankfully. My time in the Minor Leagues here and getting that opportunity changed my life in a lot of ways. So I'm very, very thankful.

Yeah, thankful for our guys, the way they played and the way they competed. This is not an easy environment to come into, but to be able to pull something off will help these guys in the future.

Q. There was a record for eight years of not winning a postseason game out of your stadium. You guys snapped that streak tonight. How good does it feel moving forward to the Championship Series and to a potential World Series?

PAT MURPHY: Nobody has a winning record on the road in the postseason except maybe the Dodgers. It's just not the way it is. The environments are so tough to play in. Yeah, so that was going to happen at some point if we keep banging on the postseason door.

But postseason games are different. They're very different. A lot of people have said we're not built for the postseason because we've done so well in the regular season. We just have a girth of players, no stars, not many stars. Where I think we're proving that, no, we still can win in the postseason because good baseball is good baseball.

The Padres were great. The Padres, they're a great team. They could have won it all, but that's just the postseason. The ball doesn't bounce your way, Uecker knocks that ball down out of the rafters, and it's a different series. Chourio gets the hit off Miller, and it's a different series.

So believe me, that team right there can beat anybody in baseball. I'm just grateful we got through.

Q. Just about getting a Championship Series for Milwaukee, how good for those guys?

PAT MURPHY: I think those guys helped us through because they feel the love of their city and they feel the support and the whole state, and they want to do something special for those people and for themselves, but I think everybody's kind of got behind us, and it's kind of a fun thing. The guys go out and execute.

I can't tell you how proud I am in this environment after last night getting beat by a run and not getting the big hit at the big time. Our relief corps doing what they did against a team like this, it's special.

Q. You talked earlier today about some guys who had struggled in a small sample size, Jake, Garrett, those guys came through tonight in big ways.

PAT MURPHY: They sure did. Turang, Garrett, Bauers hadn't had a great game yesterday. The numbers in the postseason, look at the overall offensive line in the postseason, it's so minuscule because the pitching is right on top of you. It's over and over the best pitchers.

That keeps it from getting comfortable. You execute a lot more in the postseason. Like I said, you're facing -- you've got matchups all throughout the game, and it's hard to build numbers. It's those guys' willingness to stick in there and be a teammate and not get down on themselves when things don't go their way. You just can't. You just have to keep your head up and know this is part of the game.

It isn't about me. It's about the team. When you're a great teammate, you don't have time to just think about yourself and agonize over your performance. You can't do that. You've got the next pitch to play.

Q. There was so much talk about Jackson and the RBIs and all the time that he came through. Are we overlooking Contreras a little bit and all the contributions?

PAT MURPHY: For sure. The contributions Contreras makes, just in general. This guy is -- we all him our pit bull. We do have to keep him in a cage unfortunately, but he's an incredible competitor, an incredible -- the intensity that he has and the way he handles that pitching staff, they know he means business, and they know he expects a lot.

That's what great catchers do. They connect with their pitchers, and they demand, hey, this is what you've got to do. He's that way, and he calls the game himself. It's underrated what this guy does, and offensively what he does of course. So pretty special.
