October 5, 2026

Zheng Qinwen

Beijing, China

Press Conference

ZHENG QINWEN/M. Bouzkova

7-6, 4-6, 7-5

THE MODERATOR: Qinwen, how did it feel out there?

ZHENG QINWEN: Well, feels amazing, especially winning a tough match like this. Brings lot of energy and lot of adrenaline. I'm just happy I get the win in front of my home crowd.

THE MODERATOR: Questions in English.

Q. In your matches here, there has been some movement outside of the court and some noise in the crowd as you're serving. You have called that out. Why do you apologize for being vocal about that, seeing that as something on you?

ZHENG QINWEN: Yes, first of all, if they walk on the side, I don't really mind. The problem is when you walk in the box, and when I have to return, it just disturb your vision. In the return, if you are 0.3 seconds late, probably you don't hit the ball perfectly.

But in the same time I think people should be allowed like they're walking in between. It's tough to really, like, don't move at all. I understand.

But in a match there's lot of nerves and I really wants to win and I get so excited. I really wants to put the return in. All this makes me that I want the crowd behave also properly.

But at the end of the match I say I should have done better myself because I can't really control what the crowd doing, I only can control myself. So I felt like I should have done that better on my own, yeah.

Q. Before the tournament you were discussing how you really wanted to perform well in front of your home people. Now that you've had some really close matches, are you thinking about that on court or are you able to just focus on the match?

ZHENG QINWEN: I just think I believe here everybody wants to take me down. They really show up their best tennis. I believe somehow they prove that the level was really high.

Of course, I'm really happy to win 'cause I felt like maybe they play without pressure, but I felt I really play with lot of pressure because I wants to perform as well in front of my home crowd.

This gives me energy. But in the same time I believe maybe I should be a bit more chill, more relax on court, especially when I'm leading 3-1 in the first set. Those mistake... I believe I should done it better.

Q. You switched your racquets a few times throughout the match. Can you talk about, were you feeling uncomfortable?

ZHENG QINWEN: Yes, I believe it's normal to switch racquet. Once I felt the ball start to flying, I had couple mistake, the ball was out like this. For me, in my head, I think now is time for me to switch.

I think that's gives me more chill in my mind. If the next couple balls I miss, I say at least I switch racquet. It not because of the racquet, it's because of me.

THE MODERATOR: Chinese questions.

Q. Qinwen, after the win, you made a celebratory gesture. People were discussing you were paying tribute to Cristiano Ronaldo. Some other people were saying that it was mimicking or celebrating the Sailor Moon. In previous matches you've paid tribute to Spiderman in the US Open. Some Chinese people call you Mulan. So what kind of inspiration did you get from these superheroes, or rather what is your ideal super hero?

ZHENG QINWEN: I want to clarify. That wasn't Sailor Moon. It's a very niche idol. I watch a cartoon as a child. I sang a pop song, it's called The Flash of a Dream by Meng De Guang Dian. I told my team it's a very childish cartoon. That was a transformation gesture in the cartoon. My team members was making fun of me. After winning that point, I need to do something to my team.

By the way, the name of the cartoon is Shen Bing Xiao Jiang. It is indeed a childhood cartoon. I think people in my age might grow up with that cartoon.

Q. I checked some numbers. This win against a Czech player in the past two years you ended your losing streak against Czech players. It says your level has risen. Did you do any specific research?

ZHENG QINWEN: When did I lose to a Czech player so many times? Sorry, I don't remember the numbers.

I remember this time last year I played Bouzkova. I retired during the match, right? That was the match I remember.

I think Czech players play flat very consistently. On grass they are really excellent. I can see they get champions on the grass courts. I think Czech players are really tough players.

This is a tough one. I'm really happy.

Q. Really good serves in the previous two matches. Can you talk about your serve? Also your expectation for the next-round opponent who beat Rybakina.

ZHENG QINWEN: Well, I think I didn't really practice my serve. There was some ups and downs in my practice. I thought I could have done better.

What makes me happy is that what I did after my serve, I didn't really practice previously, but I did better in the matches. This is something I should celebrate.

To be honest, I might have seen her matches. A little bit impression of her game, but not so much. Not very familiar.

After this press conference I will do my homework.
