Q. As you're watching those at-bats in front of you and the way that inning is unfolding, what do you notice in those at-bats that you take with you into your at-bat against Miller?
JACKSON CHOURIO: Watching those at-bats beforehand, I knew that he was a little bit erratic. He was throwing some balls. I knew that he was gonna come at me with the fastball at some point, so mentally I was just making sure that I was prepared for that.
Q. Looked like there were a couple fastballs in that at-bat that you thought you had a chance at. Can you just take me through some of those pitches leading up to it and what your mental process was for the hit?
JACKSON CHOURIO: There were good pitches on his part, so credit to him. They were fast. But all I was really looking to do there was put the ball in play. I knew if I put the ball in play, I had a good chance of getting on base, getting on base safely. And obviously with the situation there would have tied up the game.
That's really all I was looking to do. And just simplified it.
Q. Murph said this is one of the most fun games he's ever been a part of. Where does this maybe rank for you?
JACKSON CHOURIO: I don't know if "fun" is necessarily the word, but I know it's definitely one of the more exciting ones.
Q. You've told us before you feel like you were born for those moments. When did you first feel that way? How old were you? Where were you? Do you actually remember a moment where you felt like, this is what I was born to do?
JACKSON CHOURIO: Yeah, that's one I've actually been thinking about a lot lately. I think I look back to my first year, my rookie year. It was a game against Seattle. And I think I was the last out, punched out against Muñoz. He was on the mound at that time.
At that point, everything turned for me. I told myself I was never going to make the last out. I'd dedicate myself to fighting and doing whatever I could for the team and not having that feeling again from that specific game.
Q. Where does the fight in this team come from?
JACKSON CHOURIO: I think from the unity we have. It's a team that's very unified. We know what our strengths are, and we know how to support each other. So I think everyone's rooting for each other in there. Everyone's supporting each other, and we know how to win.
Q. As you were walking off the field, I could tell you were looking around, smiling, kind of taking it in. What was going through your mind as you realized what had just happened and that you had just won the game?
JACKSON CHOURIO: In that moment really, I was thinking of my family. Very fortunate to have my mom and dad here, and I have my mom and dad here supporting me. So like I said out on the field, I dedicate this hit to them, for sure.
It made me really happy to know that they were here. And it made me really happy knowing how happy it made them up in the stands.
Q. You started in this game so young. What about playing in the majors these last three years has surprised you, been easier than you thought or harder than you thought? How have these last three years unfolded compared to your expectations?
JACKSON CHOURIO: The truth is it's not easy. It's not easy. It's the highest level that there is to play at. It's just a question of being mentally prepared and making sure that this is, again, the highest level that there is. So making adjustments in how I was able to be mentally prepared each and every day, and making sure that I am whenever I take the field.
Q. You've said many times you love these moments. We just talked to a bunch of your teammates in there. They all said you're the guy they want up in those moments. How do you feel hearing that they have that trust in you and they want you up there in that spot?
JACKSON CHOURIO: Like I said before, there's a ton of support from them. So there's a lot of friendships in that room that I know I can count on.
Like I said earlier, I'm going out there every day to give everything I have and to do whatever I can to win. That's always my mentality. I know they're doing the same.
Q. Can you describe that joy in that moment? And is that your greatest on-field joy from a moment standpoint that you've had?
JACKSON CHOURIO: Yeah, I think it's probably in the top three of the special moments I've had in my career.
