Quick Quotes
Q. Ten years ago you began your professional career right here at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, and now you stand here as the winner. How special is this full circle moment for you?
ADRIAN MERONK: It's unreal. As I told you before, I never usually cry but this one feels really special. I'm sorry, I'm just lost for words. To win here after ten years, after turning pro, it's a dream come true, and it's unusual. I'm sorry, I'm at a loss for words but I'm extremely happy and relieved.
Q. You started the day two shots back. How proud are you of the way you handled yourself out there today in really tough conditions to ultimately get it across the line against stiff competition?
ADRIAN MERONK: Yeah, I knew it's going to be a tough day. We knew the course was going to be very Wendy. You know, I set up myself mentally yesterday with my psychologist for the day. I knew what to expect. I had a number in my head, what I have to shoot. To be honest I was quite close to that number but yeah, I'm super happy I playing really solid golf. Did a great job with my caddie, Stuart. It was quite stressful at times but also fun playing with my partner. He was amazing and we had a lot of fun.
Q. There are few venues in golf that come with as much history as this one, the Old Course and St Andrews, we are standing in the heart, the home of the game. Many players dream of adding a win here to their C.V. We saw you walking down 18 looking up for just a moment. Were you able to absorb what was going on? How were you feeling and how special, and what does it mean to you to win right here?
ADRIAN MERONK: After my drive on 18, I was quite happy with the position I was in. I was just trying to enjoy the walk. It's an amazing walk when you cross the bridge. You look around, the people, the history. Actually when I was crossing the bridge, I talked to myself. I was actually thinking about Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus walking on the bridge and I was asking for good energy from them. It was just a great feel. I really enjoyed that.
Q. You spoke earlier in the week about wanting to play as much as possible for the remainder of the year on the DP World Tour. A word on what this victory does for the next chapter of your career now?
ADRIAN MERONK: Yeah, the goal for the rest of the season was to try to get my status tore next year, and that helps me a lot. I'm super happy that I actually got that goal, but I will have to re-evaluate my goals for the rest of the season and see what happens, but I'll do that tomorrow and then see what happens.
I'm super happy and super grateful to be in that position.
Q. Finally with your partner, such a special week, it's been so much fun for everyone involved. Will there be a party tonight?
ADRIAN MERONK: I'm not sure. We haven't talked about it to be honest. We'll find out, I guess. I'll have to ask and see what happens. Like I said, it was so much fun. He played great golf, as well. We did a great job as a team. Whenever I struggled, he got my back. It was so much fun and super happy for him.
