NL DIVISION SERIES: PADRES VS BREWERS

October 3, 2026

Ty France

Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA

American Family Field

San Diego Padres

Pregame 1 Press Conference

Q. Ty, obviously a tough task today facing Misiorowski. Your thoughts on facing a guy like that here in Game 1?

TY FRANCE: Yeah, it's exciting. He's the best in the game. So it's going to be a tough task but we're looking forward to it. And it's going to be a fun environment, for sure. And looking forward to getting out there.

Q. Speaking of environment, the environment in San Diego, second to none right now. But coming to Milwaukee, I'm sure it will be pretty loud here and certainly a bit more hostile. Your thoughts on how you guys continue this momentum now coming on the road?

TY FRANCE: It's going to be loud, especially if the roof's closed. It's fun playing in these kind of environments, even if it's not at home. At home we have 50,000 pulling for us. Here we're going to have 45,000 going against us.

It's going to be fun when we get out there. And just continue to play our game and have fun doing it.

Q. Finally, we've talked to you throughout the season about coming back to San Diego, being on a minor league deal, getting the opportunity and everything you've done with it. Now to be in this stage in the postseason with the opportunity you have in front of you, how does it feel in this uniform in particular to be doing what you're doing right now?

TY FRANCE: It's special. Was drafted here 11 years ago. So to be able to put this uniform back on, it means a lot.

And the run that we're on right now, we're playing really good baseball. To be able to do that with this group of guys has been a lot of fun. And looking forward to continue doing that.

Q. For people who haven't followed y'all this year, what's been the difference since late July? What's caused this team to get as hot as it's been the last couple months?

TY FRANCE: We've been hitting the ball. That was the kind of thing that slowed us down in the first half was we just weren't scoring as many runs as we should have. And I think it was 10 days before the All-Star break, things kind of clicked for us and we started swinging the bat really well.

And the pitching's been pretty consistent all year, and it was mainly the offensive side that stepped it up.

Q. We talked so much this year about your success from the team perspective and how much it's meant. But could you take us back to the middle of Spring Training and where you were at and sort of your journey and what you were feeling at that time and sort of your perspective on the whole thing?

TY FRANCE: For me, it was come into Spring Training and win a job and kind of play with a chip on my shoulder and prove that I belong in this league. I kind of never lost that this year. I used it as fuel all year.

I'm very grateful and fortunate it all worked out and I was able to make the team and be productive and help the team win this year.

Q. Having Michael going tomorrow, he's been obviously really good in this postseason. He's been really good all season. But in the postseason in particular, I'm wondering if you noticed anything maybe different about him on the mound and the way he went about it?

TY FRANCE: I wouldn't say he really did much different. He attacked the zone. His velo was up. I looked up at a fastball and it was 98. And Michael King can throw 98. A special pitcher.

I think it's just he had an unbelievable year all year. But once you get into the postseason in this environment, things kind of just ramp up. And I think his focus was a little more dialed up, and he really attacked the zone.

Q. You talked about playing with a chip on your shoulder earlier in this season and then you talked about how you like the opposing ballpark. How do challenges drive you, particularly in this season?

TY FRANCE: I feel like that kind of stems all the way back from when I was 12, 13 years old. I've kind of always been the underdog in my career and had to, every single step of the way, prove that I belonged. And even drafted in the 34th round, had to prove myself at every level that I belonged. And debuted in '19, got optioned.

So it was just like one thing after the other, trying to continuously prove that I belong. I feel like my entire life in baseball I've played with that and it's helped get me here today.

Q. Back to Misiorowski real quick. He throws the fastball like 64 percent of the time. He's going to tell you what he's going to do. When you've got a guy who is guy that who is that heavy on one pitch, even if it's that good, is it almost like you just kind of disregard the rest of the stuff in the arsenal and focus on that? Or how do you approach somebody with that kind of approach?

TY FRANCE: I think every guy's different. Some guys hit fastballs better. Some guys hit the offspeed better. You know, fastball's 104.

So you can't really eliminate one pitch because that's when he throws it and he gets you. So you're gonna have to be on fastball timing but also be able to adjust.

Q. Following up with the question with playing with challenges and everything. Do you allow yourself to think like, okay, I'm sitting here at this podium right now, I'm good, I've made it? Or what keeps pushing to you continue to sit at a podium in the next series, if that makes sense?

TY FRANCE: I don't think you can ever think that way or become complacent because this game will humble you super fast. I've gone through my set of challenges the last couple of years. Not saying that I got complacent or felt that I deserved to be here. But even when you do play with a chip on your shoulder, this game is hard and it will beat you up.

Just finding a way to enjoy it and make it fun. And this is an unbelievable environment. And to be able to sit here on this podium, it's very gratifying, but the work's not done.

Q. This Brewers team, their lineup notoriously puts the ball in play, puts some pressure on the defense. You've played such a good first base all season long. Can you speak to, in this series in particular against their lineup, the importance of defense for you guys?

TY FRANCE: Yeah, we have to take care of the baseball. Kind of like you touched on there. They're a fun, exciting team. They like to put runners in motion, bunt the ball, hit and run and do all that. They've got a complete lineup.

So you have to take care of the baseball. You can't give away outs. And gotta do everything you can to slow them down and control the game.

Q. How much confidence does it give you as a team when the last time you played them you sweep them? What are you able to take away from that series going into this as a team?

TY FRANCE: I think you can go back and watch, learn from what you did during that series. But at the same time, they had a really good September. I think when we played them, they weren't playing their best baseball at the time.

So fast-forward to now, they had a week to recover and refresh. So I think there's things that you can take from that series, but at the same time understand they're probably not going to be the same exact team as you played a couple months ago.
