ALFRED DUNHILL LINKS CHAMPIONSHIP

October 3, 2026

Matt Jordan

St. Andrews, Fife, Scotland

Quick Quotes

Q. 6-under 66, moving day at Kingsbarns, not a bad day's work?

MATT JORDAN: Yeah, just tried to get off to a quick start. I think the course presents itself with that. So yeah, managed to kind of do that. Was a bit slow through the first few holes but once I picked one up they all kind of came. Tried to keep going as much as I could.

Q. You played St Andrews in your opening round shooting 69 there. Will you approach it differently tomorrow?

MATT JORDAN: No. No, I mean, I love the place. I played there many a time. I think it's going to be quite windy. So as with links golf, just play it as it presents itself.

Q. You're currently one behind the lead held by Casey Jarvis. How excited to put yourself into contention tomorrow?

MATT JORDAN: Yeah, of course that's what I want to do. I want to be in the last few groups and I want to give myself a really good chance, certainly, on Sunday, and yeah, that's what I've done today. So let's see what tomorrow brings.

Q. What would it mean to win your maiden DP World Tour title at the Home of Golf, that's the stuff dreams of made of, isn't it?

MATT JORDAN: Of course, I have a few memories, my dad was an R&A member before I was a pro. I have a few memories of him and my dad playing the Old Course, which was brilliant. So of course the St Andrews Links, I managed to win that one as well, my first big amateur title. It's a place I'm quite fond of.

Q. How much do you enjoy links golf? Obviously your background, growing up in that area and had some great results on links courses over years?

MATT JORDAN: I think it's quite natural. I've been brought up on a links and people say, oh, you seem to do quite well on it. It's just the fact as a kid, I played with my friends, nine years old, kind of thing. It's all I ever knew, really, for a long period of time. It feels like home, the way you read greens, the start lines everything like that, everything is just more normal for me.

Q. A couple good result, does that give you confidence coming into contention here this week?

MATT JORDAN: Yeah, what I wanted to do and felt like I hadn't done over the last 12, 18 months was put myself in a position to win, certainly. I kind of always felt that maybe I was a bit too far back and needed an amazing round to make it happen.

So for those two events, and obviously for this one now, yeah, just pleasing to get up there. And then from then on, just try and win a golf tournament, and that's the best pressure and that's where you really see yourself at.

Of course, yeah, confidence, I've done well in the last couple events. But golf's a difficult game, and it's tricky. So yeah, we'll see what tomorrow brings.

Q. You alluded to it, golf is an enigmatic game. Anything you attribute the good form in the last few weeks to?

MATT JORDAN: Played really well in Denmark but haven't putted that well the last few months, not as well as my long game was, and so that was kind of carrying me through but then this week has been brilliant with it. You know, he put in a lot of work. Kept speaking about it. I kept going on. I haven't really sulked. So that was the pleasing aspect prior to this week.

Q. Playing with Piers, what's that been like?

MATT JORDAN: It's amazing, how he is, like an entertainer. He's going off now and he'll speak to everyone and he'll do all these signatures, autographs. He's great. Certainly the rounds take quite a while sometimes and we've got long waits, it's great to have fun that you can have a bit of banter with. It's all in great spirit. It's been great.

Q. Does that help you relax a bit around the golf course?

MATT JORDAN: Yeah, I think so, instead of concentrating the whole time, even though you don't really switch off, I think it is nice to have that aspect, certainly, when you have 15-, 20-minute waits, definitely. It definitely helps take your mind off the next tee shot. We had probably about a 20-minute wait on 15, and certainly with the way the wind was, it's difficult. We go in the hut and he's just chatting away about all sorts and we're just having a laugh, kind of thing, and as I say, that takes your mind off that tee shot, which is really difficult.
