M. ANDREEVA/Yuan Yue
3-6, 6-0, 6-0
THE MODERATOR: Obviously a tough match out there today. Great to play in front of the Chinese fans on the Diamond Court. Can you give us your overview on the match and how Mirra played today.
YUAN YUE: I think I played well this tournament. Like today, I think I played good on first set. Since second set and also third set I felt like my physically a bit tired and couldn't move really well (smiling).
Yeah, I think from these part her physical - what is it - ability, it's much better than mine. That's a thing I need to improve in the future.
THE MODERATOR: Questions in English.
Q. You played one of the top players in the world, and you were still able to win a set. What are you most proud of? What opportunity do you take from this match?
YUAN YUE: This tournament my only goal is to play happy tennis. I didn't focus on anything about result. I only focus my performance and I really enjoy to play some good points in front of Chinese fan.
I think I starting to find the balance between pressure and at same time how to enjoy to play tennis. I think this is the very, very good things I can gain from this tournament.
THE MODERATOR: Questions in Chinese.
Q. When facing Andreeva today, what was the biggest pressure you faced? How were you able to adjust?
YUAN YUE: A few years ago I practiced with her quite often, so I was familiar with her style and speed. That is why I was able to get into the zone very quickly earlier in the match.
She is a very smart player. She is consistent. She runs fast. In the second and third set I lost these two sets, I wasn't able to move as quickly as she could. She was very consistent in her physical conditioning. Also her shots were very accurate. When she has the time, she is able to hit wide. I think that was a key for her.
Q. This is your second time facing the world No. 5 this year. In these two matches I saw your good performance. You had opportunities. From these two matches, what did you learn? Comparing against the top five players, what is the biggest gap you see?
YUAN YUE: The two matches this year I had a pretty good performance. Today I was trying to do some changes, tactics. I was able to play with different tactics, different shots. I was improving to try something I didn't try before.
I think everything goes back to physical conditioning. When playing against Iga or Mirra, I think they're much stronger than me. I think after this I will have the winter training. I will focus on that.
Q. (Question about lifestyle.)
YUAN YUE: I think in the China Open, before this tournament, I did something different in my preparation. To me, I no longer prepared too much, tactics or strategies. I just want to focus on enjoying the match. I don't focus on the results. That is my mindset going into this tournament.
There was one period when I was struggling a lot with the results. I'm really proud that I'm able to overcome that, I can have this new mindset. It proves that after going through this change, I can play better tennis.
I will definitely try to make a summary of what I have achieved in this tournament so I would further understand in the pressure moments, when I really want to win a match, how do I have a breakthrough, how do I strike a better balance between pressure and good performance.
Q. After the China Open, what is your plan?
YUAN YUE: I might go to Wuhan. I would like to finish the season early. After the US Open I decided to have a shorter season because I really wanted to. As of now, I'm not feeling any injuries.
Mentality-wise in 2026 I think I'm reaching a certain point that I'm feeling really tired mentally, so I really need the time to recover, to reset.
I look forward for a good winter training for future matches.
