Quick Quotes
Q. Patrick, 8-under through 36 holes to make the weekend for the first time here. Can we just get some comments on how you're feeling, what that means to you.
PATRICK FISHBURN: Yeah, it means a lot. I haven't had a whole lot of success obviously the last couple years. Wanted to play well in the State of Utah, very proud of the State of Utah. So good to have a good couple days, played really solid. Did a lot of things nice. Just it's a tricky golf course. It's a really fun golf course to play, glad I have two more days playing it.
Q. The back nine was kind of an adventure. Can you talk us through some of that?
PATRICK FISHBURN: Yeah, pretty steady on the front. The back nine made a nice putt for birdie on 10 from about eight feet. Hit two really good shots.
Didn't quite make the hill on 11, so I hit a 7-iron in there, cut one in there nice to about seven feet and made that.
And then kind of Utah/Texas wedge on 14 from off the green out of a divot, made birdie.
Then 15, ball's just going pretty far late in the day, 210. I hit 8-iron thinking that was going to come up short and it kind of went long and into that bunker, and I just didn't expect the 8-iron to get there.
16, just caught one a little bit thin off the down slope a little short.
Then really made two, three really good swings on 17 to hit it tight.
Then driver, 4-iron into the middle of the green on 18. Unfortunately, 3-putt, but three good shots to kind of close it out.
Q. You had a lot of stress factors coming in. It's a home game, you hadn't made the weekend here yet, there's all the points stuff going on in the FedEx Fall. What was that like for you going into it and then what is your reaction now that you've got the weekend, so points and a check are coming?
PATRICK FISHBURN: That's right, yeah, it's very nerve wracking, for sure. A lot of anxiety, a lot of pressure, a lot of stress. But in the past I've played my best when I had these feelings. So I just kind of learned to embrace it and know that actually some good shots come when I'm feeling this way. So again, I love the juice, love the adrenaline, love the feeling of being in the hunt or having a chance to do something. So definitely was feeling those feelings today last two days, so hopefully I can get a couple low ones and climb up the board. I got a long ways to go, 17-under is pretty deep in two rounds.
Q. You and I have talked about fourth quarter Fishburn before, how you seem to rise at the end of a season. Are we ready for another late season run?
PATRICK FISHBURN: I hope so. Every single year I feel like my job somehow has been on the line. From Canadian Tour, Korn Ferry Tour, PGA Tour, so pretty much six or seven years of do you think this. So it would be nice to take care of things early, have some really high finishes the next couple week, especially this week, but I'm suited for it. I always love the chance to have this opportunity. So blessed to be every time to play.
Q. On the golf course these two days what have you done better than the last two years here?
PATRICK FISHBURN: Definitely putting. I feel like these are really tricky greens. I talked about it earlier in the week where there's a lot of putts where there's double-breakers, 10, 15-footers, it double breaks. And where they put 'em it's probably tough to see unless you're on the green. But they're putting 'em in really tough spots. So definitely putting, and then iron play has been really good. I feel like I've hit it to all the right spots other than where I talked about on 15, kind of missing it short sided. But I hit a lot of greens, hit it kind of where you need to. Desert golf, you have to plot around and be patient and get the putter going and I feel like I've done that the last couple days, just need to make a lot more birdies to catch 17-under.
