Kevin Streelman

Ivins, Utah, USA

Black Desert Resort

Quick Quotes

Q. Kevin, opened with a bogey and then never looked back. 16 birdies over the past two rounds. Can we get comments on the first two days for you?

KEVIN STREELMAN: That's crazy. When you're in the middle of battle you don't really think about in that regard. It's a golf course if you do drive it well and straight and in play you can attack a number of the pins. Did really great work with my coach Dana Dahlquist this week and the swing feels in a really good place thus far. Hopefully we can have two more days of it. But it's a course you keep it in play and greens are still fairly soft, but they're rolling perfectly. I've been putting great and having good distance control on my irons and if you keep the ball in the fairway you can go low out here.

Q. You played here every year, contended the first year in 2024. What have you learned with this golf course and is there anything you can pull from being in contention that week?

KEVIN STREELMAN: Well, a lot of questions there. I lost my status technically with my medical rehab in Asheville, so this was kind of falling back into my position on the FedExCup list, so I was one of the last guys in this week. I just feel like I'm very thankful and fortunate to be here. Also I feel like I have nothing to lose, really. This is my almost 20th year doing this and pushing 500 starts and my family's coming in this weekend. I just feel I'm going to try and attack and have fun, and if things go well, great. If they don't, it's okay too. So it's looking like I'll get in a number of the fall events and just going to do my best for this season, kind of see where the cards stack and then take it from there. But I look forward to it. I really enjoy being here. This is a great place, it's only about an hour from Phoenix where we live, by plane, and yeah, beautiful place to be.

Q. At 18 you had an interesting angle into the green. Were you sitting on the slope?

KEVIN STREELMAN: Yeah.

Q. And you elected to putt. Were you in between or was that a necessary decision?

KEVIN STREELMAN: Yeah, I was in between. I'm really good at that shot and just didn't hit it hard enough. Had it right on line. It would have been really nice if I hit it a few feet harder. But, yeah, it just was my decision at that moment, but yeah.

Q. And would chipping have worked?

KEVIN STREELMAN: Possibly.

Q. You didn't want to risk the ball coming back to you?

KEVIN STREELMAN: No, it was, either one would have worked, to be honest. It's just whatever you're comfortable with in that moment. As I said, I hit it well I just didn't hit it hard enough.

Q. No extra pressure on you being in the final group possibly?

KEVIN STREELMAN: I hope so. It's been awhile since I've been in the last group in a PGA TOUR event. That's kind of what we do it for. I've been doing this for so long it's like you look back and you just remember the cool moments more than trophies or money or things like that. Like, those kind of just are whatever. But the memories you have and the relationships you have and the people you share it with and those are kind of what I look back and with the most joy in the last 25 years that I've been doing this.

Q. Can you recall the last time you played in a final group?

KEVIN STREELMAN: Sounds like you know the answer to that question.

Q. I do not.

KEVIN STREELMAN: (Laughing). That's a good question. Ask the PGA TOUR staff. It's been awhile.

Q. You were the first person to hit a tee shot here.

KEVIN STREELMAN: That's right. Someone mentioned that last night.

Q. And you had the first birdie as well. So here we are two and a half years ago doing it.

KEVIN STREELMAN: That's a neat thing. I've become very close with Jared Lucero and the team at Reef Capital and have become one of their ambassadors. And I'm proud to be friends with them. And we joined Marcella, their club up in Park City. And just seeing what they're doing across the country and even now across the world in the golf space is going to change the global golf game for everybody. So I'm excited to be a little part of it and it all started for me right here at Black Desert and meeting the team, and like I said, they have become family, so it's special. Special to play well here.

Q. It's been awhile since you won, do you feel like the memories when you get in the last group tomorrow or the next day, is that still ingrained in you to win?

KEVIN STREELMAN: That's a good question. I would say right here I would like to attack and have nothing to lose. But will I be nervous? Of course. I'm a human being and that's what happens when you're close to doing something that's meaningful to you and that's important to you. So whether that's excitement or nerves or, you know, freaking out whatever it is, it's kind of all the same, it's all in the same family. For a good stretch there in 2012 to 2015 I was experiencing that a lot, in the prime of my career. But, yeah, I don't know. I didn't think I would be doing this past 45 and I'm going to be 48 in a few weeks. So there's a lot of gratitude in that and thankfulness and really joy. So the fact I can still do it and hit it far enough and putt it well enough is like, why not.

Q. I love the putter story, if you could just tell that putter story again.

KEVIN STREELMAN: So that two-ball blade, it's hilarious, the Odyssey reps, it drives 'em crazy because they can't even find 'em to get me a backup or anything. It's really kind of funny. But I got that when I was in the mini tours. I got my Tour card the end of 2007 I think I got that one in 2006 and I was putting well in 2006, 2007. But then you got out here and you have access to every Scotty Cameron or every custom thing you can imagine and it just was like in the back of my closet, always is, to my eye, this beautiful looking two-ball blade. So I pulled it back out last year. I had to Monday qualify at the Sony. I hadn't done a Monday qualifier in 15 years or 16 years and I ended up Monday qualifying for the Sony last year, and used that putter. So it's been in the bag ever since. It's been, yeah, almost two years that I've been rolling that thing and ride her for a long time, yeah.
