Quick Quotes

Q. Impressive round of golf, 9-under 62, a career best for you on the Tour. If we can get some comments.

ZACH BAUCHOU: Yeah, it was sweet. I think this score is particularly -- this week you've got to hit a lot of 150- to 200-yard shots. Fairways are decently wide, but you've got four or five pretty narrow tee shots, and if you hit those drives well you can actually pick up a lot on the tee, which I was able to do, so those were really nice.

Walked off 18 and told my caddie Mike, I was like, I think this is the lowest round we've ever shot together. So it was a good day.

Q. You picked up almost six strokes tee to green, and then you also led the field approach to greens, so really great ball-striking.

ZACH BAUCHOU: Yeah, thank you. The irons were really good. I've kind of been struggling drawing it a little too much lately, but I found a feel to where I can hit some shots straighter, and it's been a lot better lately.

Q. How were you feeling coming into the week and then your preparations?

ZACH BAUCHOU: My prep, I was just in Oklahoma last week, playing at Oak Tree. I felt like I played okay, but it's somewhat hard for me to judge my game out there because I just know the course so well and can generally get around. But felt pretty nice on Tuesday and Wednesday here.

Q. What do you find is the biggest challenge of this course? I mean, there wasn't much a challenge for you today.

ZACH BAUCHOU: You have a lot of long shots into the greens here. You do have some reachable holes, and those are the holes you're going to score on, but you have a lot of shots from 175 and 200, and it's not always that easy to hit a 6- or a 7-iron on the green or even close to make a birdie. So that's kind of where you've got to focus this week.

Q. You finished the regular season top 100 in the FedExCup standings; you're now 86 in the fall standings. Talk a little bit about your goals coming down the stretch of the fall season.

ZACH BAUCHOU: To be honest, I'm not a big goal setter. I just try to do the best I can every day, try to improve every day. I felt like I spent some time the last couple weeks reflecting on the season. Felt like I played pretty solid most of the year, just didn't have that many high finishes. But like when I looked at my strokes gained, I was like 40th in strokes gained, which for being almost 90th on the FedExCup, that's a pretty big disparity.

Yeah, just try to improve when I'm home and know that I am actually playing probably better than what my results are.

Q. Do you dig into the statistical numbers a lot?

ZACH BAUCHOU: Yeah, I like to look at the stats and stuff. It's not always a perfect indication of how things are going, but it's a decent baseline. For me, it's just been mostly driving the ball. When I've driven the ball well, I've generally played pretty well. So I need a little more speed and a little more accuracy. Never hurts.

Q. How excited are you for the next three rounds?

ZACH BAUCHOU: Yeah, very excited. It definitely helps when you have a round like today to get you excited for the week. I feel like it's been a pretty long season. Hard to, honestly, stay motivated and come out and try to do the best you can every week. But it's nice to have a good day, and definitely gives you motivation to play well the rest of the week.
