Quick Quotes

Q. 36-hole day. You got through it.

MATT VOGT: Yeah.

Q. Into your first quarterfinal I believe, correct?

MATT VOGT: Correct, yeah.

Q. How does that feel? I mean you've been around this for...

MATT VOGT: Yeah, no, it's great. I'm just super excited. Trying to have fun. Trying to keep it as light as possible and just enjoy the moment.

Q. What's been the difference this week versus maybe last year? I know you lost the first round last year.

MATT VOGT: I played Brandon Holtz, the hottest golfer on the planet at the time, or Mid-Am on the planet.

Yeah, just, you know, I mean, it's golf. You know, it's tough to answer that question.

Q. Yeah.

MATT VOGT: But it's been a lot of fun this week so far.

Q. What was the turning point in your afternoon match? Where did to swing for you. Did you just get off to a good start?

MATT VOGT: I think I was 1-down after two. It's funny. You can hit some good shots that don't end up great and you can hit some bad shots that end up okay.

So he got a bad break early, and then played some really, really nice golf from there in. I'm blanking on his name.

We had a really solid match. He played really solid. It was -- both guys I played today, really solid.

Q. You get to that level, you figure you got here for a reason.

MATT VOGT: Yeah, absolutely. Yeah. I feel like Mid-Am field just gets stronger every year somehow. Yeah, it's very exciting.

Q. Record entries this year. More than the Amateur. That tells you something.

MATT VOGT: Yeah, yeah, it's fun. I'm pumped to get through today, pumped to go back to the gallery for some dinner here at Sand Valley and rest up.

Q. Now exempt for next year as well.

MATT VOGT: Oh, is that so?

Q. Yeah. Quarterfinals are exempt.

MATT VOGT: Right on. Sounds great.

Q. Obviously there a lot at the end of the road of this. How do you stay patient enough to know -- get that out of your mind?

MATT VOGT: Yeah, I mean, there is just so much golf to be played. There is just so much that you just got to -- I think you just got to control what you can control and just, it's golf.

Q. Yeah.

MATT VOGT: You know, at the end of the day it's golf, and it's cliche, but one shot at a time.

Q. How many appointments have you had to schedule around this week for the dental practice?

MATT VOGT: I have an awesome partner that works with me and she's holding down the fort. Everyone is taken care of. Yeah, my phone is on do not disturb. They're all handling things. Yeah, everybody is taken care of. No worry about that. I'll be back next Monday.

Q. Who is the partner?

MATT VOGT: Maria Summers is her name. Yeah, she's a dentist I work with at my practice. Yeah, I'm so thankful for her on weeks like this so we can focus on this. No matter what happens, on Monday I'll be back in there, so...

Q. I'm sure the clients are following as well, the ones that know you play.

MATT VOGT: Yeah, it's really fun. I mean, some know what's going on. Obviously a lot don't.

But it's really cool. I feel like the balance of -- as a Mid-Am you're always trying to find balance in your life. Just the balance of that side of life with this side of life, it's very cool. Just the U.S. Mid-Am is very cool.
