OPEN DE FRANCE

Quick Quotes

Q. Matt, congratulations on claiming the 2026 Open de France, your 11th DP World Tour title here in France. Can you describe what this one means to you.

MATT FITZPATRICK: Yeah, amazing. Whenever you manage to win, it's always special. And this week it adds to that. I played great for the first three rounds, and it was a bit of a battle today. So just makes it that much sweeter.

Q. You mentioned a little bit of a battle. You're incredibly consistent all week. But I assume your patience was tested today.

MATT FITZPATRICK: Yeah, definitely. I think the first 12 holes, like I say, were a bit of a grind, out-positioned a few times, and managed to sort of scramble my way to making 12 pars in a row. And then it was nice to make a breakthrough birdie on 13 to get some of that cushion back basically.

Q. Those last few holes can really make or break a round or a tournament even. What was your focus heading down the stretch?

MATT FITZPATRICK: Just trying to make the same swings I had all week. Really felt like my game was in a good place. Felt like I hit a lot of good shots and played really well basically Thursday to Saturday.

And first 12 holes were a bit of a battle, different winds, so I felt a little bit more uncomfortable with all the directions for the holes, but the last six I really felt like I played some of my best stuff all week. So it was nice to kind of close out there.

Q. You're finishing this year, sixth last week at Wentworth. How much confidence did you have coming into this week?

MATT FITZPATRICK: Yeah, definitely, I think I definitely took a more relaxed attitude to this week. So coming towards the end of the season, and obviously it was a little bit last-minute addition in my schedule.

But, you know, to obviously get this over the line and a good finish last week is obviously a great start on the Ryder Cup points as well, so there's a lot of bonuses to doing that.

Q. This is your third national open on European soil off the back of two wins at the Omega European Masters. How special is it to play in these events and obviously win them?

MATT FITZPATRICK: Yeah, it's amazing, just I think the biggest thing for me is the history. You look at some of the names of the winners on the French Open trophy, and even as well as any tournament I feel I've been lucky enough to win that's had some fantastic winners in the past, and it's always nice to kind of add your name to that group.

Q. And your first visit here since 2018. How special was it to be back, particularly in front of those French fans?

MATT FITZPATRICK: Yeah, the support was great this week. I really, really felt it. And I think when you go into a different country, sometimes you might not necessarily get that. But, you know, even today, playing with Tom, he had a lot of French support, which was amazing to see. I also felt like I had a lot of support, which was nice.

Q. And your first win as a dad. It must make it that little bit more special?

MATT FITZPATRICK: Yeah, absolutely. I was just speaking to my wife, just, you know, first win as a dad is always really cool. And, you know, hopefully I can sort of continue that trend.
