THE MODERATOR: We are joined by Cameron Young and Chris Gotterup from the United States team. We will go ahead and open it up to questions.

Q. Chris, after how the first session went for you, how did you spend Friday? Were you frustrated? And how did you kind of turn the page into today?

CHRIS GOTTERUP: I think it was a mix of a lot of things the first day. One, I was really nervous the first time getting my feet wet. In this type of environment, it's different. Then Friday I grinded a lot when I went out and watched the guys, and I tried to pump them up.

Yeah, just tried to wait my turn and then be ready to go come today.

Q. Cam, kind of a silly question, but you guys were 6-under in the foursome session on the front nine. When you're playing like that, how does it feel?

CAMERON YOUNG: It's definitely -- I mean, it's fun. It's awesome when you're going like that. There's nothing like it. At the same time, it's never easy. Sungjae and Adam are both really good players. You're never quite sure, and they can get it going just the same.

I kind of gave Chris somewhat of a speech on 2. Everything was going well, felt easy, and I kind of said, like this morning, there's always a difficult time in these matches, no matter how good it's going. Sure enough, we kind of didn't really have one in the afternoon.

It never quite feels that way, but looking back, we really were pretty well in control most of the day. It's awesome when it's going like that, especially when it's alongside a good partner like Chris.

Q. To follow up on the first thought, Chris, how comfortable did it make you feel that he was giving you some advice? It probably made it a little easier, I would think.

CHRIS GOTTERUP: I feel comfortable when I'm playing with him. If you've seen him hit the ball, it makes you feel pretty good if you're his partner. Yeah, last night we talked as a team that we just needed to get off to a good start and then get the crowd into it early. I felt like we did a good job of that all day for both sessions.

Yeah, we're going to need to do it again tomorrow too. But we did a good job in our group of just staying in our group and making sure we didn't let up and kind of no mercy.

Q. We always talk about guys feeding off each other and so forth. Was that truly the case for you guys? Did you just feel like -- golf's never easy, but you're more comfortable trying to hit the shots you want to hit?

CAMERON YOUNG: Yeah, I feel like we had just a really good day of that all around. Chris kind of picked me up first hole of the day after I hit it out of bounds. Then I kind of went on my run early, and he went on his run late. You have to do some of that in these.

Those guys played really well this morning, and as well as we played, they were still right there at the end. That's kind of how it goes. We did really just kind of step up when the other guy needed it, and this afternoon I feel like we really both were just in control the whole day.

Q. Kind of building off that, for both of you guys, is there something about your style, your background, about you guys that works well together? Anything like your personalities that you feel like mesh?

CHRIS GOTTERUP: I think for me personally, one, we play at home, so we're comfortable with each other. I know how he plays. I think he knows how I play. We play similar -- we're different, but we play similar styles of golf in the fact that if he hits it in the rough, I've been in, like, a similar position where we're not going to be in the fairway all the time just with how far we hit it.

It's not uncomfortable in the spots we put each other in. We just have a connection through being from the northeast and just playing golf, and then being from the same area, I think it helps. Even if it doesn't, it does help.

CAMERON YOUNG: Golf-wise, it's super easy. I think both of us, when in doubt, tee it up, hit it hard, go find it. We're both pretty comfortable trying to figure it out from wherever the other guy hits it. I think that made it pretty easy this afternoon.

Q. Cam, how do you feel compared to last year? Trailing both times, but what's the difference in the feeling from last year's situation playing Europe and today?

CAMERON YOUNG: Sorry, last year's situation where?

Q. Bethpage.

CAMERON YOUNG: We're obviously closer than we were last year. I like the spot we're in better than we were last year. A lot of the feelings are the same. These team events bring out a different side of all of us, different side of golf. There's a level of nervousness leading up to each round, first hole or two, that you just don't find everywhere else.

I played some great golf in the Ryder Cup last year, got to experience kind of all the highs and lows. It's definitely helpful. The more you can get your feet under you, the faster you can get your feet under you, even just match to match, that's helpful because every hole counts.

You are just nervous every day on the 1st tee. That's just how it goes. I think a little bit of that experience knowing everybody else feels the same way, if not worse than I do.

I didn't use it this morning, but it helps just knowing the faster you get your feet under you, the better chance you have.

Q. Chris, did Brandt or one of the vice captains say anything to you after your defeat that kind of pumped you up for going back out there today?

CHRIS GOTTERUP: I didn't think we needed much motivation. Obviously we played well this morning. They said we're sending you guys back out there and get ready to go. We had a half hour to go get ready. We both went and grabbed something to eat and went right back to the 1st tee.

I think I can speak for both of us that from the get-go this morning we didn't need much extra motivation.

Q. After losing your first session, did he say anything to get you motivated to go back out?

CHRIS GOTTERUP: He just said that we're going to need you Saturday and get ready. I think it's the unique part where we're so used to playing all the time and being in control of everything where he just have to show up, and when your name's called, you've got to go out and play. That's what I tried to do today.

Q. Speaking of getting your name called, this is your first time going into Sunday singles. I'm curious, do you have a preferred spot in the order you like to go out? Is that collaborative at all? Or are you just going to go out whenever your name is called?

CHRIS GOTTERUP: I've just got to worry about my match and whoever I'm playing and put a point on the board. We're going to need everyone to be there no matter who it is and get ready to put a point on the board.

Q. You guys seemed so excited to play with one another today, and then you got to do it twice. Is there any reason why we had to wait two days in order to get to see you guys play together?

CAMERON YOUNG: I think Friday just got jumbled up a little bit. That's kind of the way it went. We were both looking forward to the pairing. Like Chris said, we play a bunch of golf at home. Exciting for me, just that I like -- he plays golf very much the way I do. It's fun to watch.

We played a four-ball match the other day at home, and he beat all of us on his own ball. Anytime you've got someone with that gear to go like that, it's exciting. I've seen him do a lot of crazy stuff with the golf ball. It's fun to watch, and he's very, very talented. It's one of those where I'm just looking forward to watching good golf and knowing that I don't have to hit all of the shots. He's got a lot of them for me.

Q. Obviously you handled it really well today, but I'm curious of the challenge the golf course has presented. Obviously in foursomes seeing pars win a lot of holes, a lot of volatility. I'm curious if this is any different than it was when you guys practiced or just how the course has changed.

CAMERON YOUNG: It's firmed up really quickly. It's so different than it was on Monday, Tuesday. I think if the wind blows any harder than it did today, it's really hard to have makable birdie putts. You're just going to see a lot of pars. With some difficult hole locations, the greens as firm as they are -- there are a couple, I would say, that were a little easier today on the hole than they were the first two days.

It's just, when they get this firm, if there's any more wind than today, it's really hard to get it close. Then the greens are fast and firm, so it's hard to make much outside of that 12- to 15-foot range.

We'll see how it plays tomorrow. We're playing a little earlier than we did this afternoon, obviously starting at 11:00. We'll see what we get early, but it takes some really good golf to make a bunch of birdies out there.
