THE MODERATOR: We will go ahead and get started. Welcome to pairings for round 2 foursome matches. I'll now turn it over to Gary Young, chief referee of the match committee.

GARY YOUNG: Thanks, Amanda. Good evening, everyone. Welcome to round 2 pairings for the Presidents Cup. Round 2 matches will be played foursomes format. Team totals following round 1 are as follows: United States 3, International 2.

The International Team selected first in the first round of matches; therefore the United States team will select first for round 2. As a reminder, captains will have two minutes to make their selections.

Q. Brandt, wondering what you thought of Jackson's performance. I know you weren't the one following him the whole time, but he seemed to have some jitters early and then hit the ground running.

BRANDT SNEDEKER: I really haven't gotten a full rundown on the match but super happy for him, a rookie getting his first point in the Presidents Cup. I think Justin did a good job showing him the ropes. Justin played fantastic today, and Jackson got to see what USA golf looks like. Super happy for him, happy for our team that you have a rookie like that getting their first point.

Q. I'm sure Justin being there is a help to Jackson. I'm wondering if you feel like putting Justin in that leadership role, do you feel like it invigorates him at all?

BRANDT SNEDEKER: It's hard to say it doesn't. He played fantastic today. Justin is the ultimate team guy. He does whatever we ask. Gave him a tall task, taking a young kid under his wings, and he did a fantastic job today.

Jackson did his part. It wasn't like it was all JT. Jackson played great coming down the stretch. That was a really strong pairing.

Q. Brandt, how much of these decisions today are about your pre-tournament plan as opposed to kind of adjusting based on how guys played today?

BRANDT SNEDEKER: You're talking about for tomorrow?

Q. Yes.

BRANDT SNEDEKER: I think you have a game plan coming in, and then you kind of see how things unfold today and what kind of changes you need to make, if you need to make any changes at all.

I keep saying, everybody has a plan until they get punched in the mouth. Mike Tyson said that famously. We had a really good plan coming in, and we're still sticking to it. So it's been great.

Q. Geoff, can you speak to the decision to put Tom and Si Woo in the anchor match each of the first two days and kind of the role that they play for your team?

GEOFF OGILVY: It's just the way that draw unfolded, but they love that situation. They clearly enjoy each other's company, and they sort of thrive when they play with each other. I mean, they birdied the first two or three holes today. They just got off from where they took off last time.

They're great friends, and they like playing. As I said, that's just how the draw unfolded. They ended up going last.

Q. Sneds, what did you see in Collin and Wyndham that you thought they'd be a good pairing? They had never played together before. I'm just curious if you saw something in the stats or in the practice rounds.

BRANDT SNEDEKER: Being on these teams, you kind of get to know these guys a little bit, what they want in a partner. I think they're both obviously extremely talented golfers, and they're both great team guys. They're both willing to do whatever we ask them to do.

Just felt like with the way Wyndham's played this year and what Collin is, Collin is one of the best iron players in the world. He's one of the straightest drivers in the world. You give somebody like that to Wyndham Clark, who's got more firepower, horsepower than about anybody, especially the way he played this year, that's a pretty powerful duo.

I thought they did a fantastic job today. They were great in practice sessions. I think the world of both of them.

Q. Why did you decide -- it seems like you spent most of the day with that lead group, Sam and Scottie. Why did you want to stay with them? What did you want to see?

BRANDT SNEDEKER: Well, I was kind of -- we were kind of a man short to have somebody cover every group. So I was just kind of trying to be out there in case they needed something or be around them. Just figured I didn't want to leave them out there by themselves.

We had four other vice captains following the other groups, and they were out there by themselves. Just wanted to be there in case they needed anything.

Q. Geoff, can I get sort of your big-picture take on the day from your side's perspective?

GEOFF OGILVY: I thought it was decent. I mean, look, we obviously wanted to win the session, but I thought all the boys did really well. We got some rookies out there. This is not an easy thing to do the first time you play. I saw a lot of good golf out there.

The golf course changed a fair bit today, at least from the reports from the guys. The greens were fast and it was a bit firmer. It was amazing how when we turned up on the weekend, what we got, how firm the golf course was today compared to three days ago.

Yeah, it's -- I mean, like I said, we would have loved to have won the session, but 2-3, we had a chat when we got back to the room, and I'm proud of the boys and I'm proud of how they played today. They're all pretty excited to get out there tomorrow.

Q. Sungjae and Min Woo Lee had a big task today, taking on Scottie and Sam. They probably had some chances there. I don't want to say they let them off the hook, but that was one where a half point would have been a decent --

GEOFF OGILVY: What are you trying to say?

Q. I'm trying to say did they give it away? They had their chances.

GEOFF OGILVY: Was there a question in there?

Q. Yeah, did they give it away?

GEOFF OGILVY: Look, I didn't see much of their match. I watched them hit off the 1st, and then I was following a different group.

Q. Late bogey from the fairway essentially gave away the lead. They had them on the ropes.

GEOFF OGILVY: You could just write this yourself. You don't even need my answer.

Q. But I've got to get your perspective on it.

GEOFF OGILVY: You're trying to be nice. Look, it's a big task to go out first to play against Scottie Scheffler and Sam Burns. It's the best golfer in the world and one of the other best golfers in the world who's played incredible this year. They're a great pair. I mean, in the first group.

I feel like they did a really, really good job to push them to the 18th. I'm sure they're kicking themselves because they probably feel like they had an opportunity, but that will motivate them for tomorrow when they come out and maybe get another crack at that; you know what I mean? They get another chance to win a point tomorrow.

They both would have, I'm sure, enjoyed the experience, much preferred to have won the point or get a half point. They hung in there really well. That's obviously a really, really difficult match to win. They got it to the 18th hole, so I'm really pretty proud of them.

Q. Cam and JT were four-balls duo last year at Bethpage. Just curious why the format switched for those two players in particular?

BRANDT SNEDEKER: I just think those guys have played great golf. They're good friends. They've played together before. I think it's a natural pairing for them. I think it's a pretty strong alternate shot pairing. Looking forward to seeing them get out there.

Q. Wyndham was just in here, and he said that the energy felt a little flat compared to what he was expecting. I'm sure you've been looking forward to this day and maybe imagined it for years now. Did it feel flatter to you? Did it feel what you expected?

BRANDT SNEDEKER: It was a weird day. I really felt like the fans were out there and they were there, but the 1st tee was loud, and then it just kind of dissipated as the day went on. I don't know why.

I think part of it was because the golf course was set up pretty difficult. There was some really tough pins out there, so it was really hard to get a lot of birdies going. You've got guys going crazy, I guess. And there's some tough viewing out there on some of the holes where people really couldn't see what was going on.

I know what Chicago is built of. I know what kind of fans we've got here. They'll come out tomorrow. We've just got to go out and play good golf.

Q. Geoff, wondering just about Hideki and Ryo. Ryo seems to take a lot of pride and excitement when he's able to play with Hideki. Just wondering their dynamic, what you've noticed, and them obviously being able to get a point?

GEOFF OGILVY: Look, their dynamic is amazing. Imagine for a 24-year-old Ryo to play with Hideki Matsuyama. It's his seventh Presidents Cup. He's clearly a massive hero of all young Japanese golfers. To get a chance to go do that on the first day of the Presidents Cup, it's a pretty special occasion.

He played fantastically well. I mean, what a great experience for him, and to actually go out there and play really well, and for them to get a point first off, first time they've ever played together in this tournament, yeah, a great thrill for both of them, I imagine, to do that.

Clearly and obviously their energy in the team room is great. They've got the common bond. They're from the same country. The they're both -- Hideki is a very experienced man on our team, and he brings a lot of experience and wisdom to the team room, and Ryo brings a lot of enthusiasm and water bottles into the locker room.

Yeah, just a good pair. It's just such a natural pairing if you look at it on paper for sure. And they did well, so that was great. Nice to see that happen.

Q. I think my question got asked, I'm just not sure which one. For both captains, was there anything you were hoping or expecting to see today, and did anything about what those expectations might have been change?

BRANDT SNEDEKER: That's a pretty broad question. I'm trying to think if I can simplify it down.

I think the expectations were just for our guys to go out there and compete and grind the way they did, and I was really proud of the way they did that. It was not an easy day. International Team played great. There really was some high-quality golf out there from what I saw and heard on the radio. I was super proud of the way our guys hung in there.

The second part of that was what?

Q. Did anything happen today that either surprised you or didn't go like you thought it was? Good or bad.

BRANDT SNEDEKER: I think there was -- there's nothing too shocking out there today. I didn't think there was anything that was just -- it's some of the best golfers in the world. There's always going to be something that didn't go the way you planned or guys didn't -- it's just kind of one of those things. It's professional golf.

I was kind of expecting the unexpected at some point today. But I'm super proud of the guys. I was super proud of the way they hung in there, super proud of Scottie and Sam getting that last point there for us.

It was a tough day. International Team played great. They really put it to us, but I was proud of the way our guys hung in there.

GEOFF OGILVY: I can't remember the question.

Q. What do you get out of the day? You're hoping to see something, not necessarily a result but just a style of play or something. Did it go mostly according to plan, or did anything surprise you, good or bad?

GEOFF OGILVY: Not really surprised. I thought the first tee was great. I was there the whole time for the groups. I thought the flyover and the anthem was great. That was a cool experience. I'd heard about these opening ceremonies, but I've never actually done it. I thought it was really fun.

The atmosphere was cool. Most guys are braver than me. They all hit great tee shots down the 1st for the most part. I think that's a pretty scary tee shot. I thought it was impressive that most of the boys hit really good shots there.

The course from an architecture point of view, I was happy to see it play a bit firmer. They put some really tough pins out there today.

BRANDT SNEDEKER: Yeah, they did.

GEOFF OGILVY: The course played really difficult. No, it's you guys' job to guess what's going to happen. We just try to play good golf; you know what I mean?
