Q. You've had 14 partners in your match cup career. Is that a good thing? Do you enjoy mixing it around? Do you wish you had somebody that was your go-to guy?

COLLIN MORIKAWA: I talked to Jim about this quite a bit before the Open. I think just the style of my game, you can kind of put me around, and you just end being that wheel that just gets sent everywhere. If someone needs a partner, you're kind of the guy.

Obviously it would be nice to settle down with one guy, but teams are different. Depending on where you go, it might affect three other pairings, for example.

I think after playing a bunch of these, you kind of know what you like out of a partner, and sometimes you can't ask for everything. But look, no matter what, you're going to go out and put everything you've got, and hopefully it kind of melds together.

Q. What do you like in a partner?

COLLIN MORIKAWA: Obviously for me what I've noticed is I like someone that's got a lot of energy. I'm someone that's really low key, kind of just keeps under the radar. I think someone that's got a lot of energy, it brings me up, but at the same time I kind of settle down with them a little bit. I think sometimes that's a good thing.

But at the same time, I've played well with partners that don't do that. For me, it's just making sure I go out and play my game. But yeah, eight partners is a lot.

Q. How would you describe the feeling walking onto the first tee?

COLLIN MORIKAWA: Yeah, it's always nerve-racking. I think the buildouts get bigger every year. The entrance gets that much more exciting and nervous. You feel it; you almost want to get there a couple minutes early to calm yourself down.

This first tee shot this week is not easy. You've got the fence on the left, rough on the right. It's one that you really have to pay attention to, but it's always an exciting memory to have, especially once you hit that first tee shot.

Q. Do you prefer a partner that plays a similar style to you or a different style?

COLLIN MORIKAWA: I like the guys that play a little different. Honestly, the guys, depending on the format, sometimes if I'm a little farther back, I hit a decent shot, it allows them to be a little bit more aggressive.

I think it's nice when it's not the exact same style. I hit it a lot shorter than a lot of the guys. There's not many guys that play the way I do.
