Q. Starting your account here at Wentworth with a 68, how do you evaluate today's performance?

PATRICK REED: Frustrating. It's kind of one of those days that we felt like we gave ourselves a lot of good looks for birdies but just kept burning edges and missing putts. Made a few. Missed a decent amount.

You know, to go 17 holes without bogey, and then on the last, to hit a poor 3-wood off the tee and to miss a putt there and make bogey, obviously is going to leave a sour taste in your mouth.

Overall, the golf is steady, just steady play. I'm hitting the ball where I'm looking, and because of that I'm giving myself a lot of opportunities. Just need a couple more to lip in rather than kind of lip out.

The game feels good. The game feels good. Like I said, I wish I would have at least parred the last hole because I wouldn't have had such a sour taste in my mouth after the round. But the first 17 holes were just solid, steady golf.

Q. Not to sound too glass-half-full or too rosey, but do you take any comfort that even when things weren't going your way today, you were on that first page of the leaderboard.

PATRICK REED: Not really. Kind of one of the things that made -- a lot of golf left to be played, and the good thing is I went out and shot a number that even when I feel like I have not got the most out of my round, I'm still in the mix. That's where I feel like, in the past, sometimes we get away you pretty quickly.

But I feel the way we're hitting the ball now and the work with my coach and I, the game is really steady at the moment. Because of that, it's one of those things, I'm giving myself a ton of looks. So since they are not all going in, that's what gets frustrating about it.

One of these things, around a golf course like this, you almost have to play boring golf at times, and today was kind of that day where I kept hitting the green, especially there in the beginning, everything inside 20 feet, the ball decided to wave at the hole rather than go into the hole.

One of those things, the game is where it needs to be, but need one putt to go in early and that should open up the gates.

Q. We're at the point in the season where everything is starting to ramp up. Rory in his press conference made it clear he would like to narrow the gap to you. You guys have a history of playing golf in the spirit it should be played. I imagine that's a challenge you would relish?

PATRICK REED: Any time I get to go play against Rory, it's always fun because that means you get to play some amazing golf. With his record and just kind of his resumé that he has, he's a champion. He's been a champion a ton of times and he's one of those guys that if you go up against the best, you're going to have to take him and Scottie on. To have the opportunity to take him on throughout the whole rest of the year is going to be fun and looking forward to it.

Q. I know you're looking to 2027, but only one American has won The Race to Dubai before and that was Collin Morikawa. What would it mean to put your name there as well?

PATRICK REED: It would mean a lot. I've always prided myself as being an American that consistently comes over and shows support to this tour. But to also be able to go ahead, Race to Dubai, a win would mean a lot. It's definitely in the back of my mind, but at the end of the day just go out there and take care of business each and every day. And hopefully we play late enough on Sundays coming in that we're able to kind of cap that off at the end.
