THE MODERATOR: We'll go straight to questions for Jakub and Karolina.

Q. Jakub, you said this was your first mixed doubles event of your career. 36 hours later, to be a Grand Slam champion, how does it feel?

JAKUB MENSIK: It sounds crazy, huh? Like you said, my first mixed doubles, 100% win rate, so... I will finish my career, I guess (smiling). It's making fun.

No, of course, it was fun event. Of course, I think we just went there out to have some fun, just to get couple of matches before the main draw. We actually played pretty well. It's starting to get like a real deal.

So yeah, obviously when we went this far, not just me, but both of us, we are very happy that we could lift the trophy.

Q. Seems like there was a big vibe shift in all three matches. Teams looked much more stressed today than yesterday. Did you sense that?

KAROLINA MUCHOVA: Yeah, I think the fact that we start to play so late, as well, change it a lot because yesterday we played at 11 with the sun, and today we came out to packed Arthur Ashe with the lights. Was a big show. So it definitely changed a bit of a rhythm.

I think both of us, we are very competitive, so once it started we just trying to keep it going. Yeah, got us here. I think we did something right. I'm happy for both of us.

Q. What is your favorite color? What was your favorite color? Will pink and maroon now be towards the top of the list?

JAKUB MENSIK: My favorite color right now is pink and maroon, that's for sure.

KAROLINA MUCHOVA: I think I as well have to say that my favorite is maroon. Now that Jakub know what it means, it's favorite colors of both of us, yeah.

Q. When did you find out the word 'maroon'?

JAKUB MENSIK: I knew it. From the first moment that I got this color, for me it was like purple, like wine. It's going to be some trick when I texted her. Actually I was with my girlfriend in the room, and she was telling me that she will say something that I do not understand. C'mon. She actually did. At the time, of course, I didn't know what does it mean.

I mean, for me it's just pretty basic. In my vocabulary I have six, seven colors, that's it. Everything when has the same shade, for me it's the same color. Obviously Karolina, she had like maybe 100 different types of colors.

KAROLINA MUCHOVA: It could be purple. I call it maroon. I didn't know I'm going to confuse you this much. I'm sorry. But we figure it out at the end.

Q. Maroon in English?

KAROLINA MUCHOVA: In English. Made it even more tough for him.

Q. You said Jakub texted you, and you said to get your ranking up. Did you want to play and you needed him to do that or you wanted more time to evaluate if he won some more matches?

JAKUB MENSIK: No, I will take it this time.

Before a lot of people send me like the articles of that, yeah, come on, I want to play with you.

I texted her, and yeah, I mean, she just keep going.

KAROLINA MUCHOVA: I really wanted to play with him. Obviously the ranking was a little bit like deciding point because the cut for this mixed doubles is very high. I put a little pressure on him, but in a fun way. It worked.

I'm happy we managed and we got in, that we are here now.

Q. This is your third Grand Slam final, your first win. How does it feel to win one of these? First Grand Slam title for both of you.

KAROLINA MUCHOVA: I think I'm not even realizing it yet. Obviously we are both singles players, so that's always in my head.

But yeah, I feel we are both kind of chilled that we, like, celebrated. But it goes so fast. This format of a tournament, it went really quickly.

I'm obviously super happy that we managed to win. It was not my expectation. I think we'll celebrate a little bit and have some days off. I'm glad we made this together with Jakub.

Q. Now that you're turning your attention to the singles draw, can you use this result as momentum to power you through?

JAKUB MENSIK: Yeah, I mean, definitely. Obviously it's not probably the main fact that we won the title, but actually that we really had like really great matches to play. If it was mixed doubles, it's actually pretty different discipline.

Of course, at the same time it's good that we tried a lot of things on the court. So of course it gives you a little bit of boost of confidence, that's for sure.

Yeah, I mean, the key part of that, of course, it's like Karolina said, it's good to have these little day off, still a little bit of time till the main draw of singles starts. Of course, that's the main event, why we are here.
