Mirra Andreeva

New York, New York, USA

Press Conference

THE MODERATOR: Welcome. Questions.

Q. Well, you reached the semis of the mixed doubles. Can you talk about your experience.

MIRRA ANDREEVA: Well, I think the atmosphere was great. We had so much fun. During the first match, Andrey told me, Mirra, let's just have fun and create a lot of great memories together. I was, like, Okay. This is going to be our plan.

After, I feel like we just decided to have fun. Obviously we also wanted to win, but we just didn't want to be stressed, you know.

After that, I felt like we were playing great. Obviously we did create a lot of memories. I'm still sad that I screwed up a little bit in the end of our last match when we had a couple of match points (smiling). But I don't know, I still had so much fun. I would definitely do this again.

Q. Can you talk a little bit about what it's like having an older sister who's an accomplished player just in terms of growing up in that environment and the family dynamic, practicing, modeling, if there are benefits you think to being younger?

MIRRA ANDREEVA: Yeah, for sure. I'm happy that I'm the youngest (smiling). I feel like it's not easy to be an older sister, because you have to go through certain things first. You know, parents also are gaining experience with the first child, as well.

I feel like I had more benefits because I'm younger. You know, parents obviously knew what to do. For example, tennis-wise, as I said many times, I maybe didn't have to play so many tournaments that she did, and then maybe that saved me some time, as well.

Also, she was also helping me with school. She was also giving me a lot of advices. I would always copy her, because obviously she was, and she still is, my role model that I always look up to.

I'm just happy that I'm the younger sister and that I don't maybe have to be, I don't know, a role model for any of my siblings that I don't have anymore -- I mean, younger siblings. Whatever. I mean, forget it.

Q. It sounds like more of a supportive than competitive environment for you then?

MIRRA ANDREEVA: Well, I feel like we were never really competitive with each other, because our parents always told us that because we're sisters, we're the closest people that we're gonna have in life, and we always should support each other.

We didn't practice a lot together, because it would get messy, not between each other and our relationship, but it would just, I don't know, I would get mad, she would get sad that I'm mad, then I'm sad that she's sad. It's a lot of different emotions. That's why we didn't really practice together a lot. We would always just support each other no matter what would happen.

Q. How would you describe what's happened at the first three majors and the effect on your thinking going into this last one?

MIRRA ANDREEVA: I don't know if a lot of things changed in the way I'm approaching this tournament. I feel like in Australia it was a little bit different because it was the first slam of the season, second tournament of the year, third tournament of the year for me. I don't know. I was super excited to play every match that I had just because, you know, it's the start of the season again. I love playing in Australia.

Paris obviously, I love playing on clay, and then, you know, I ended up winning that tournament, so obviously that was also amazing, a lot of great memories.

London is tricky because of the grass, you know, that relationship that we have is just back and forth. Here, I just, I don't know, mentally I don't know if a lot of stuff has changed. I'm just super excited to play the last major of the season, and very excited to be in New York again, because I love playing here.

I think that for now all I feel is excitement, and I don't know, just happiness to be here and be able to play.

Q. You made your debut here three years ago as a 16-year-old. Knowing what you know now as a Grand Slam champion, having experienced life on tour, what advice would you give to your younger self who was here at 16?

MIRRA ANDREEVA: Ah, God. Well, maybe just to be a little bit nicer with myself, you know, more easygoing with myself, not to put so much pressure on myself.

Just kind of enjoy as a 16-year-old girl who came to New York for the first time to play a major. I don't know, just to enjoy this time and not, I don't know, expect so much from yourself. Because I was thinking that, you know, I obviously could play well, but it would all go into negative thinking if something wouldn't work, it would just affect the way I see how I play.

So, I don't know, just to be nicer to myself overall, I would say.

Q. You got to play on Ashe for the mixed. They've made some changes to the stadium. They've moved more seats down into the lower bowl.

MIRRA ANDREEVA: Oh.

Q. You didn't notice?

MIRRA ANDREEVA: I didn't notice. I also practiced there the other day. Yeah, didn't notice any changes, so I don't know.

Q. It was just announced that there's going to be an advisory board for the Grand Slams, with players having a say in things in the future. Curious on whether or not you would want to be part of those conversations, and as a player that's still fairly new to the tour, what would you hope comes out of that?

MIRRA ANDREEVA: I didn't hear about it. I don't know. I didn't talk about it yet, so I cannot comment anything because I don't know. Maybe I'll get the info later, I guess.

Q. A follow-up. Do you see yourself joining the player council for the WTA or other councils that kind of arise in the future? Is that something you might want to delve into?

MIRRA ANDREEVA: Well, maybe in the future. For now, I don't see myself in this, I would say. Maybe in the future something changes, but for now I feel like I do have my focus set on different things for now.
