S. TSITSIPAS/A. Fils
4-6, 7-6, 6-1, 6-4
THE MODERATOR: Arthur, not what you expected. Your thoughts on your play today.
ARTHUR FILS: Yeah, was a tough match. I got some occasion. Couldn't make it. But congrats to him. I mean, he played better than me, so he deserve to win.
THE MODERATOR: Questions in English.
Q. Obviously you were in a decent position, up a set and 5-2. Was there anything going on maybe physically that happened, or do you feel like it was pretty much just him?
ARTHUR FILS: I don't really know. I don't have the answer.
But yeah, once the energy went down at the end of the second, and I never felt again a good energy. I have to talk with my team, but at my level, to do such a mistake is almost unprofessional.
Q. In your head, in that fourth set when it was going away from you, how were you feeling then?
ARTHUR FILS: Yeah, I was trying to fight, you know. At one point I break back early in the fourth, so I was trying to find a way, but yeah, not accurate enough on the serve. The ball was not going very well out of my racquet.
So yeah, it was tough. Even if I was fighting, was tough.
Q. Did it feel similar to in the match against Frances like when you were able to get it back, or did that feel very different to you?
ARTHUR FILS: Very differently.
Q. You had a great run in Cincinnati. With that on top of having to play a former top-5 player, did that create extra pressure entering the match, and do you think that might have had some effect on how things went?
ARTHUR FILS: Well, if I had any pressure, I think I would have start the match pretty bad. But I felt okay. I felt relaxed. I start the match okay. Not the best level I ever played, but still pretty solid. You know, I made myself in one very good position.
So I think it was no pressure. Just some settings were not the best for me today.
Q. You mentioned kind of feeling a little bit tired at some parts of the match. Do you feel like some of that was due to going deep in Cincy and also having a good run in Montreal?
ARTHUR FILS: I don't know. Of course it's a very long swing, but no, no excuse. I mean, I just have to work way harder to be able to play those kind of tournaments.
Q. Can I just confirm, do the hip and back feel completely fine?
ARTHUR FILS: Everything perfect (smiling).
Q. I know it's obviously not the ending you hoped for at the US Open, but just coming off Cincy, do you still feel in a good mood with how your game is going as we transition to the next part of the season after that milestone?
ARTHUR FILS: Tough question to answer right now, to be honest. Of course pretty happy with the way I play Montreal and Cincy, but very, very, very disappointed with the way I played today. So now I see more dark than pink, but it's okay (smiling).
